hi my fellow catholics, i was hoping you could answer a question for me so here it is…

im am a high school student, and i was talking to my friends on my cross country team why gay marriage should be one man one women.

they argued, jesus can’t be able to judge them if you enact yes on marriage. when it is i believe that jesus sayed what the law really was, and i also sayed gay people have lots of rights. my friends also sayed that they should be able to marry. because they can’t help it and it hurts there fealings.

i really love jesus christ. and i dont want to hurt other peoples fealings, i want gay people to be able to see eachother in hospitals etc. but i have a hard time explaining it to my friends.

i know gay marriage is wrong, how do i explain it to them that it should be enacted in law.

well i’m a little confused on what point you’re trying to argue  .
but i will tell you that the Bible says one man one woman, not 2 men or 2 women or ANYTHING else.
it will probably be pointless in arguing with these people about it if they don’t believe that Christ (or the Church for that matter) has the authority to say its wrong. but i guess that’s just my opinion

Hi Mrlsla,
Code:
I am also a little confused about the question. But, I assume that you are asking how to oppose the arguments for same sex marriage without hurting people's feelings.

I agree with the first poster that if your friends have a strong religious belief and a belief in the bible, then you could point them to scripture. However, if they do not and would not be influenced by scripture, that line of discussion will not work.

So, I would suggest talking about it from a social welfare perspective. Talk about how governmental recognition of traditional marriage is beneficial for children, families, and a stable society. Here is a wonderful article that discusses reason to support governmental recognition of traditional marriage without reference to religious arguments:
catholiceducation.org/articles/sexuality/ho0064.html

I highly recommend that article.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I think if we as Christians are going to be able to talk to a secular world about the importance of traditional marriage, we need to be able to speak their language. Saying “God says so” to a secular world will not be effective and will just alienate people from Christianity.

Remember that your Catholic faith has strong rational answers.

God Bless,

Mark
