First, I wasn’t really sure which thread to put this in, so I’m sorry if it is wrong.

Alright, I was just hoping for some opinions. Heaven, is basically eternal bliss, right? Hell is a place of suffering due to separation from God. Not everyone goes to Heaven, and it is very likely that some people I know are going to Hell. My question is, how can I be eternally blissful if I people I know are suffering torment due to their separation from God? Will my memory of those people be wiped? Will I not care?
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Not sure about some of this but I am completely confident that we should look forward to and enjoy our eternal life if we are blessed with one.

St. Thomas Aquinas (or his pupils) address it in the Summa supplement, Q. 94. Bottom line, “by considering therein the order of Divine justice and their own deliverance, which will fill them with joy.” But read the whole thing for context.

That’s the reason why we should always pray for folks we know and love.

Mary tells us that some souls end up damned because there is no one to pray for them… and some souls end up in Purgatory (instead of hell) because there is someone who prays for them.

Some say souls choose to be without God. We can’t force them and God can’t force them to choose Heaven.

I want everyone one I know or have ever known to be in Heaven. I can’t think of anyone that I would send below. No matter how obnoxious or unpleasant some folks have been, I don’t see anyone who deserves damnation… there have been a few who we’ve nicknamed ‘prince of darkness’ but deep down they were not truly evil.

Of course, I’ve been lucky because I have not met any truly wicked folks… I really do not care to meet any in the future either…

All we can do is pray for ourselves and our friends and loved ones, and hope we all make the right choices.

Being in Gods Presence will be so uncomfortable for the damned they will throw themselves into Hell. If someone you know goes to Hell, and yes its horrible to contemplate, you will know that they chose it and they have become completely vile and ugly with nothing left of the God they hate in them. You will feel peace knowing they are where they wanted to be, where they belong, and where they must be for the sake of justice as well as their own freedom from the pain of being around God Whom they have rejectethats what I think.

Knowing a loved one commits suicide is not comforting simply because they chose it.

No mortal being on earth really knows an answer to this, but:

Logically, if everything about a person that is good (and that we loved) came from God, and anything and everything that is good comes from God and his perfect love, and everything that is bad comes from a lack of God (it is no coincidence that “sin” in Spanish means “without,” which in Latin is “sans”), and Heaven is completely without sin (which is really a double-negative if you think about it), and hell is completely without God (or completely of sin), then, in hell, everything about a person that has been loved by his family and friends has been completely and totatally devoured by sin, and in Heaven only that which was good about him/her is left to be with God for eternity.

Heaven is all good, which means that whatever was good about a person that has been damned is still in heaven and always was, and forever will be, even as the person that it had been connected with burns for eternity without God.

As creatures of conflicting good and evil, we can be extremely confusing at times. However, in Heaven, we can be sure that we will rejoice with God eternally, and therefore with everything that ever was, ever has been, and forever shall be good.

Strawberryjam…we wouldn’t be comforted on earth. I don’t think I said comfort anyway. We will have peace about it in Heaven. Besides who says suicides go to Hell?

The Blessed in Heaven in fact never think of the souls in Hell. You won’t remember anyone who is in Hell, if you are in Heaven.

Most suicides are committed by demons. The human being is not responsible.
I’m not sure what you mean by that or where you get that info. If you mean demons tempt the person or caused the despair or something, I can see what you’re saying, but I think they do still bear some responsibility. We just can’t judge how much. And there may be some who bear no responsibility at all.

You understand me. I am getting it from Catholic Doctrine, believe it or not. Demons tempt, and they also possess, either fully or partially (obsession.) Now, it seems to me the preference for a demon would be to tempt a soul into suicide, since then the soul would be guilty of the sin and they would succeed in taking the soul away from God. But finding themselves unable to tempt a soul into suicide, I do not think they would stop short of possessing it and causing it to do so. In which case, the human being would not be guilty of suicide, since the human being did not have full consent of will. Suicide is opposed to the self-preservation mechanism, and it does not seem likely that demons could overcome that by temptation very often. In order to actually commit suicide with human will, that human would have to hate God, hate itself, and hate all others.

You are way over the fence with this one.

“way over the fence” comes from sport: you try to score but the ball flies not only above the goal but over the fence that is behid to collect lose balls…its a joke:)

Why would the devil waste their time, possesing and killing the body? They want to destroy souls not bodies.

Because, in general, they hate human beings and they hate God most of all. I have no doubt that they will first attempt to tempt the soul into committing suicide with its own will, so as to deprive God of that soul. But, as I said, finding themselves unable to do so — because all temptation can be resisted, and God never fails to supply necessary grace — they may, despairing of depriving God of the soul, cause the soul to commit suicide by possessing it. There are several reasons they would do this. First, it is an act of hatred against God, a mockery of His Gift of Life. Second, it could induce others to despair. Third, even if it does not induce others to despair, it is almost certain to cause others suffering, and their primary motivation for anything at all they do is hate.

Demons are very limited in what they can actually do, not only by their purpose.
Was there such situation, of a person going crazy because was possesed, and ending in suicide? I do not really know, and I think proof it’s impossible.
As far as I know suicides have a reason to end their own life, and it’s a mortal sin they can’t repent.

What do you imagine “crazy” is?

Love4all, I don’t think its always demons. I really don’t. I totally agree with your explanation of the hate they have for us, just having an insatiable drive to harm with no reason going into it…blind rage at us.

But God allows possessions. Demons can’t just jump aboard and kill us suddenly… we have to invite the demon, right? Well, ok not always. I guess they killed emily rose.

Sorry…guess im too sleepy to think clearly. I think I am almost over the fence with you, but I wouldn’t say its either a demon or hatred for God. What about those poor teens who get bullied then commit suicide? I can’t think God doesn’t save them at the last moment. I just want to cry thinking of those poor people!
