…are there any tips to be prepared?
I´ve read often that many people prefer to wald a certain percent of a route instead of drving, but this is impossible for me because I can´t take the days off and can´t afford a hotel to sleep during this time, so I will be driving by train (which is really a huge sacrifice of money for me, but not the kind of spiritual devotion I would like to give).
So, are there any tips to prepare? I thought of fasting before and praying during the drive, for example. I will be driving 6 hours each route, I think, so I could use the time in the train 🙂

Are you traveling from your home to a particular pilgrimage destination?

Six hours can seem a long time, but can also go by faster than you might expect.

Bring resources for the different types of prayer, alternating them over the 6 hours.

Choose prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, praise.

Include music/song if you can, with earphones for listening and drowning out surrounding distractions.

Choose scripture reading for contemplation.

Read lives of saints associated with the pilgrimage site.

Fasting is good to include. Consider breaking fast close to your arrival, in accord with your health and stamina.

Spend the last 15-30 minutes doing nothing (except perhaps enjoying the passing scenery), resting in expectation.

Finally, treat distractions with an open heart. Be aware of your fellow travelers. Discern God’s hand in the unexpected.
