If you pray 150-200 decades of the rosary, do you pray all the introductory prayers and final prayers for each mystery group, or do you pray the introductory prayers once, do all three or four mysteries one after the other, then pray the final prayers lastly, but only one time?

I usually pray both introductory and final prayers.

When I pray all the four mysteries at one time, I say from the Creed to the Hail Holy Queen for each mystery. When I joined the group prayer of Rosary, I noticed they only said the introductory and concluding once in the beginning and at the end.

Personally I feel it is more complete to say each mystery with the Creed and the Hail Holy Queen. This way I don’t have to wonder if I prayed the Rosary in a complete format.

That’s a fair whack of prayer to be saying at one time! I can’t sit still for more than about 7 or 8 decades before my brain turns to mush or my butt falls painfully asleep or something.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

The only time I can do it is if I’m driving for a long time in a car by myself.

I can’t remember where I read this, but it seems to me that you only have to say the introduction and closing prayers once. But if you want to do it differently, I dont’ think there is a “right” or “wrong” way to do it.

You must mean 15-20 decades. Which would then be 150-200 Hail Mary’s.

If you are praying them all in one sitting, you should only pray one set of opening and concluding prayers. Historically, 150 Aves was the “whole” rosary, the division into thirds being sort of an abridgment.

But think about the 15-decade rosaries that some Religious wear as part of their habits. They are 15 continuous decades. They don’t have extra beads every 5, only one set of opening, and one medal at the end.

If you are praying them in one sitting, then you should only pray the opening and closing once. If you split up the mysteries throughout the day (ie, joyful in the morning, sorrowful in the afternoon, glorious in the evening) then you should open and close with seperate sets of prayers. But if you do 10 or 15 (or even 20 if you use the luminous) decades in one sitting, combining 2 or 3 (or even 4) sets of mysteries in one sitting, then you should use the opening and closing prayers only once. Of course, you should only ever divide by multiples of five (don’t say 7 decades at a time or anything like that which would split up the mysteries weirdly)

Much less saying 30-40 Rosaries would take 15-40 hours depending on how fast/slow you pray. 🙂

I pray the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious daily and pray the introductory and final prayers only once…
If I pray any additional Rosaries…then I pray the introductory and final prayers again…

I work 3rd shift and it takes me 25 mins. to get to work and I say my rosary in my car on my way to work then when I get off I say the divine mercy chaplet is it wrong to say these prayers in my car going to work??? Or coming home from work???

Of course not… I exhort you!👍 I don’t work anymore so I have more time to pray…When I worked I was lucky to even pray a decade never mind a whole Rosary and The Chaplet…😃

Yes, I meant 15-20.

Yes, it is quite a lot. I’ve been doing it the last few weeks, and only missed yesterday, though I did do the Glorious mysteries in church with a group. Actually I felt I only partially did them because they were reciting a whole lot faster than I could say them.

I’ve been either out of work or short on work or working temp projects from home, so I’ve got a great deal of time on my hand, so I’ve been devoting 2 or more hours a day to prayers and devotions. Unfortunately I suffer from clinical depression, and these practices haven’t seemed to help much.

As I mentioned in another thread I have a serious problem with ADD and OCD, so my mind wanders terribly when I try to pray the rosary. I’m lucky if I can concentrate on the specific mystery at hand for one Ave, much less the whole decade.I usually pray all 20 decades in one big session. It is exhausting, but I feel like it’s something I ought to be doing. I’m trying to improve my devotion to Mary.

I don’t drive. I have serious concentration problems. If I tried to drive and pray the rosary I’d almost certainly get into a wreck. Nor can I pray the rosary in a noisy place like a bus. I need a place with few distractions.

I hope not, 'cause that’s what I do, too.🙂

I don’t see anything wrong with trying to use the time you have to sanctify your drive time. Just be conscious of the fact that your primary responsibilty in the car to to be a watchful and charitable driver. Put the rosary down if weather/road/heavy traffic comes up.

I think that the only wrong way to pray is the prayer you never pray…😉 Not that you shouldn’t try to be more attentive… but consider your intention…You chose to pray…😉

The reason why I had asked the question about driving and saying the rosary is because some one had sent me a c.d. that has the rosary, the divine mercy chaplet, prayers to say through out the day and songs, well after using this cd for a year my husband started a job that takes 1 1/2 hrs. to drive to, he just became a catholic and I taught him how to say the rosary so now he says it every night, also on his way to work and on his way home from work (he works 7 days 12 hrdays) he asked me if it was right to say the rosary when not on your knees and I told him I thought it didn’t matter and now I can give him an honest answer Thank you

I think you mean 15-20 decades. Unless you pray the rosary like an auctioneer (which is probably ineffective), I don’t see how it’s possible to do it 150-200 times. If I were to do 15-20 decades (and I don’t- nowadays, I’m lucky if I get 5 in once a week during the group rosary before Mass- I need to do it more- but it is hard to settle down enough to do it until the end of the day, and then when I try, I fall asleep). I would pray the introductory prayers and final prayers once- at the beginning and at the end- if I were to pray all decades of the Rosary at one time (something I have yet to try)

I think if you fall asleep saying the Rosary, your Gaurdian Angel finishes it for you 👍

I just start walking, pray the introductory prayers, begin with the 1st Joyful mystery (or pick up where I left off yesterday, if I remember), and keep going around the loop until I get tired, then I turn around and go home, when I get to the house next to mine I wrap it up and say the Salve. 12 minutes for 5 mysteries is the average, all 4 "sets is about an hour, 2 miles and a bit more.
