Hi

A question about the Liturgy of the Hours. I was wondering whether the individual praying of the LOTH be affected by private devotion. For instance, tomorrow in my country is the memorial of St. John Chrysostom. If I have a devotion to him, may I use the readings fit for a feast or solemnity (like Vespers I, Vigil, Office of Readings, Lauds, Vespers II)? This is in the context of a private individual recitation of the LOTH. I thank the GILH is silent on this

If you are not bound by law to pray the LOTH, as most deacons & priests are, you may pray them any way you want to.

As a private devotion you may pray the LotH as you like. As you have a devotion to St. John Chrysostom it would be very nice for you to honor him in a special way this evening and tomorrow.

Be at peace.
