I have a friend that says, ‘well if man was created on the 7th day’ how come we find dinasaur remains from 150 million years ago?’ man is much younger than the dinasour. How can there be millions of years of time between man and dinasaurs if God made every thing in 7 days?

Reply from Nickname: “Genesis is not a text book” is a cop out answer, obviously Nickname does not know the answer and decided to provide a ‘non answer to my question’… Oh by the way did you read today that 1,000’s of dinasaour foot prints were discoverd at the Arizona and Utah border - presumbably mother with babys.

I hope someone can provide a logical explanation, rather than telling me that the grass is green and the sky is blue.

Well said, Nickkname.

Genesis doesn’t say that the world was made in exactly 7 24-hour periods. Its essential message is that God made the world and everything in it.

I see, then a day could be a million years. So the thelogians and scholars all agree, a day does not mean a day, it means nothing. The point that God made the world is well taken, however it would seem reasonable to just say that rather than put any parameters around it, such as on the 3 day, … on the first day… — are you suggesting that each period does not matter also? By your interpretatoin, the sequence of events are as irrelevent as the time/day. Of course a day is logically thought of as 24hrs, maybe it was thought that way back then too.

Thanks for judging me 🙂

This thread is relevant to your question: Dinosaurs

A day is as a thousands years to the Lord and a thousand years is as a day to Him. One thousand in the Bible means an indefinite amount of time. So you can’t say from the story of creation when God created everything, or how long it took Him, or any scientific stuff. The story of creation is read in the spiritual and literal senses, not in the scientific sense, and this is what is meant by “Genesis is not a textbook”.

Dear Nickname, you are only seen by the words you write. An obvious arrogant remark by you only sets the stage of the kind of person you are. Lets say that a more christian answer would have been appreicated - then again, your reply about being judged only matches your ‘holier than thow’ attitude and response. Genesis is not a text book, – how very enlightening, thank you so very much for your kind and thoughtful explanation, your words of wisdom exceed my expectations - I must bow before your vast knowledge. Thank you so much for your time. Have a nice day.

I thought the answer was very concise and to the point. We shouldn’t take Genesis as a factual history or science text.

Several ECFs give much more profundity for the question.

For the literal God is Infinite pure spirit, and therefore does not rest. Hence, as Augustine explain in On the Catechesis of the Uninstructed, the rest of God on the sabbath day prefigures the final rest of human history in the age prior to the great apostasy, when God’s People shall rest from the labors of six ages against sin and darkness.

Hence, just as man was created on the sixth day, so in the sixth age of human history, Catholic Christendom, God REcreated man in His image by renewing his mind and soul by bringing an entire continent and more of the Gentiles into the light of Chrsitianity.

So then, the ECFs deeper meaning of the creation is that it foretells the REcreation of the world, God’s redemption of man.

And I insert my little build on this: Each day begins in evening, or darkness, and ends with morning, or light.

Hence, salvation history, in the biggest picture, shall be eight successive ages, from the fall to the New Creaiton inclusive.

And each age begins with a great stage of sin, and ends with a great stage of redemption.

And the meanings of the sabbaths is this: there is the seventh day, the old sabbath, and the eighth day, the new sabbath.

So then, the final stages of redemption in human history shall be veritable rests for the People of God, that is, now, the Catholic Church. The first sabbath is in this old creation, the coming age of peace, when Our Lady of Fatima’s Immaculate heart shall reign in the Gentile nations after the world almost ends in the coming chastisement. And the ultimate sabbath, the eighth light, shall be the New Creation that never ends, that follows the great apostasy and real end of the world, when all Creation shall be resurrected, and evil utterly defeated, never again to assault the just.

Each day in Genesis goes evening, morning, evening, morning. The day begins at sunset and it ends at midnight, so morning following is a transaction from one day to the next, which shows the oneness of the days, and thus, their symbolism. Two examples of the day:

Gen 1:5 - God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” Thus evening came, and morning followed - the first day.

Gen 1:13 -
Evening came, and morning followed - the third day.

My theory:

I believe God “tested” a world with dinosaurs, but then, realized it wouldn’t work out, therefore destroying them and starting over with the contents of the book of Genesis. However, I do not believe that He created all of that in seven days. God’s more artistic than that.

But that’s just me. 😉 I got sick of the whole “Religion and Science don’t mix” deal and decided to make up my own theory. 😃 It may not be true, but it’s a great way to compromise… to an extent, of course.

I think he gave us something interesting to do…try and figure it out while we are here.

One day, we’ll know all truths.

God Bless.

Why are you being so rude and sarcastic about Nickname. If you want to debate here then keep your comments charitable!
