Maybe it doesn’t mean you have a drinking problem, maybe you have a working problem instead!
As Oscar Wilde said, ‘work is the curse of the drinking classes’
Seriously though, if your working life takes such a toll on you that by Friday night all you can think about is getting wrecked out of your mind, waking up Saturday afternoon not really knowing what happened, then monging around for the rest of the weekend in a daze before the stress cycle begins again on Monday, then your job is too much for you. Get out. Attachment to worldly things can mean too much attachment to work or to the financial benefits that it brings too.
If somebody offered you a job on your current salary where you ran around with a fiery torch screaming at a bunch of angry bears and lions all day, then at the end of the week they hit you over the head with a mallet and knocked you unconscious, would you take it? If you’re under enormous amounts of mental stress all week and need to get blind drunk at the end of it, then you’re job’s having the same negative effect on your health as the one I’ve just described.
Everything in moderation, work included
