The Catholic Answeres Library is awesome but do not miss out on the EWTN audio library and document library at www.ewtn.com . If you are not able to get Catholic TV or radio, you can listen live on the EWTN website.

My favorite advise to my children is “God’s way is best”. Do you know that among NFP practicing families the divorce rate is less than 5%.

Your verse coming to mind about “lean not unto your own understanding” is Proverbs 3:5-6. I have it posted in my office.

May Mary guide you to her Son who is the Truth.

Hi again Elizabeth,
I posted earlier (#15 I think), but in the meantime I thought of more. . .
Best advice: Go to the mass!! Even though you are not official, obey the precepts of the Church (they are wisdom) and fulfill your Sunday obligation, attend on Holy Days of Obligation (these I found were full of graces!) I did this for 4 years while I was attending RCIA and awaiting an anullment and it was the best preparation for me, more than anything else I did.
Do not despair at not being able to receive the Blessed Sacrament as you wait. “The Spiritual Communion” brought me much solace: “O Jesus I turn toward the holy tabernacle where You live hidden for love of me. I love you, O my God. I cannot receive you in Holy Communion. Come nevertheless and visit me with Your grace. Come spiritually into my heart. Purify it. Sanctify it. Render it like unto Your own. Amen.”
Lastly, I know this is getting long, but let me show God’s goodness. . . I lost friends due to my journey to conversion. In my loneliness I prayed for a friend. God sent into my life not one, but three beautiful, godly, Catholic women. And I realized recently that both my doctors and even my massage therapist are Catholic!! Pray for a support network, I know God will be faithful.

God bless you. Trust Him to complete what He has started.

:Please pray for me and my husband who is Protestant and from whom I am separated (don’t want to be) right now and for my 2 beautiful daughters Anna (6) and Lauren (4) who love the kids stuff they get to do in my old non-denominational church and find the Catholic children’s liturgy boring!!

Elizabeth:

You are making many people on these pages very happy. Your positive attitude and your search for truth in the midst of what must be extremely trying personal issues is inspiring! Think of how much joy your family will have when all members are in full communion with the Church Christ established…

I’m assuming that your 6 year old is reading. Look into getting a subscription to “Magnifikids!” for your children. These are weekly children’s “missals” that will get the kids (the 6 year-old for sure) very involved in the liturgy and tradition of Catholicism. I also highly recommend “Magnificat” for you, as it has daily readings and prayers, daily and weekly mass readings, the “order of mass,” and meditations, explanations, artwork and lives of the saints. See their website at magnificat.net/; I think they will give you a free sample copy.

The kids subscription is extremely reasonable, and is truly a “must have”!

Brian: Hi, just wanted to point out that as an Evangelical (currently I’m seeking full communion) I was quite annoyed by the regular use of the argument that there are 30 000 Protestant denominations all claiming to have the Truth and all being different from each other. It is true that there are so many views within Protestantism, but many many groups of churches that can be considered ‘denominations’ are part of a larger ‘mother’ organization and/or share the same beliefs with other similar denominations. But either way, the situation in the Protestant Churches does demonstrate that sola scriptura does not work!

My shortened story:
Baptized Anglican. Married an Anglican. Was very involved in the church as lay reader - missed very few Sundays. But! was never quite sure that I was where I should be. Read many books by all different sorts of protestants trying to find the truth about many subjects ie. adult baptism, speaking in toungues. second coming etc.etc. Lots of different views. All this over a period of 30 some years. Never looked into Catholicism. One day typed in Catholic on the internet. Read a debate on sola scriptura and sola fida.
I knew from that night on where the true church was - finally.
It was hard to tell my wife that I was going to become a Catholic. It hurt her. She remains an Anglican. Thinks that I have been lead astray.
Like Tim earlier though if the Catholic church is not the true church then there is not one.
Come on in.

Wow! All of you guys are so amazing and I feel blessed to even read your posts! God is surely working in this forum. I too am on my way home to Rome from a Non-Denom Evangelical background and I can honestly say its one of the most exciting times in my life! I too have had trouble with some aspects of the true faith but with prayer and research I realize that I am looking at it from a Protestant background and when I really give the matter to God I understand it much better. I have friends that have such prejudices and have been so misinformed that when I ask them about aspects of untrue Protestant doctrines like Sola Scriptura they just get mad and say that they can never and will never believe in the Catholic Church. Its a hard background to convert from believe me, but you all are really seeking God and He is working through all that junk! Thanks alot for being honest and preaching the good news of truth! Don’t get discouraged by the attacks you will come under. Rememeber that no one nowadays wants to hear the truth and they will fight for anything but the truth. God bless!

Brian, the number 33,820 appears on page 10 of Volume 1 of the World Christian Encyclopedia, under Global Christianity, broken down as denominations (11,830) and paradenominations (21,990). This is a statistical study, with technical terminology. I just say “thousands.” And more than two is plenty to disprove Sola Scriptura.

Elizabeth Mary, I am an ex-Southern Baptist, ex-agnostic, ex-atheist, turned Catholic, who has moved from believing that the Church speaks for Christ to KNOWING it. 🙂

The worst thing that could happen to me is not my death – it is the loss of my Catholic faith. Daily I pray: “Never let me be separated from Your Church – for to be separated from the Church is to be separated from You!”

I urge you to read Theology for Beginners by F.J. Sheed (available cheap, used, on the Internet). What a book! Catholicism is so logical.

Also visit chnetwork.org. Click on “converts.” Scroll down and click on my name: Jay Damien. It’s my conversion story, if you should wish to read it. Also read “Logic and the Foundations of Protestantism” by Brian W. Harrison. Awesome. All the convert stories there are very good.

Peace be with you on your journey. I invite you to write to me privately, if I can help. Katholikos1@aol.com

I think I know where you are at and hopefully where you are headed. It wont always be easy, but these are some of the things that helped me:

I just love to listen to Catholic Answers Radio programs. We do not receive them in my part of the country, so I have to listen on the Internet. That is cool though, because you can search the archives and listen to a number of shows on any topic that you are having trouble with. I download these at work and listen to them with headphones while I am doing a mundane task.

I also really like to listen to Father Corapi: fathercorapi.com. He shows up on EWTN quite a bit, but if you can afford to order some of his tapes, he is great. Kind of a no b.s. sorta man’s man kinda priest. He is entertaining and inspirational

I was kind of wishy washy until I got to know one of the Sisters who frequents our Parish. She is one of them contemplative types who is very soft spoken. She was speaking to me one day about one of the readings whe she suddenly slammed her fist to the table and said AND THAT IS WHY WE BELIEVE IT! To tell you the truth, I don’t even remember what we were talking about, but her amazingly strong conviction made a point with me. So, being around people who REALLY BELIEVE the faith (not wishy washy) is important.

The rest is prayerful discernment. Turn your concerns over to God. Pray the Rosary. If you don’t know how, you can get a tape or CD from the Mary Foundation (www.catholicity.com). They have several helpful materials that are free for the asking (small donations are appreciated). Find a quiet spot and go through that old prayer, you might be amazed at what can happen. Know that there are a lot of folks out there who are praying for you.

Hope any of that helps…

I would love to get together & talk w/you. I am in almost the same situation. I read “Rome Sweet Home” & loved it. I am ready to join the church, but at times I feel like it’s such a different thing than what I am used to & I get doubts, too. I have friends who think it is ridiculous to not be on BC & to have more than two kids. ( we have 3! ) At times it is so scary! But every week at Mass I feel like I am missing out by not being able participate in Communion.
