On the subject of community

Hi there! First time posting on this part of the forum, but I’m sort of an amateur philosopher and I was hoping for the help of those better at it than I. I was struck with a question this morning, and it’s been gnawing in the back of my mind since–I have a formless sort of answer, but I’d love some insight from others. I find the question rather fascinating; I hope others do as well.

Why, exactly, do people exist? Not a person (that’s a whole different question, one I’m not sure we can answer), but people–community. Why was community created? Why do we not exist in isolation from other humans?

In other words, why is no man an island?

Our very creation is in the context of community. A man and woman come together in love and a third person is created. It’s how the human race – really the human family – is built. We do not spontaneously generate ourselves in isolation. Community is not something we created. It is what creates us.

This goes back to who God is. God is a Trinity of Persons. God’s own deepest identity is that of a community. So it makes sense that creation would reflect that.

well many or quite a few people cannot survive without some sort of community interaction…
