If God gave man Free Will why did He not forbid slavery in His revelations and make it a sin?
CatechismIf God gave man Free Will why did He not forbid slavery in His revelations and make it a sin?
Christian moralists did not condemn slavery as essentially against the natural law or natural justice. The Gospel teaches that all humans are kin in that Divine image which knows no distinction of bond and free. So slavery was looked upon by Christians with disfavor and merely tolerable. Known by its consequences as evil, it should be eliminated. Christian teaching is that it is unjust to be cruel, overload with labor, deprive of adequate food and clothing, or separate husband from wife, or mother from her young children. (Yet Christians do separate those in prison from their families.)2414 … St. Paul directed a Christian master to treat his Christian slave “no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, . . . both in the flesh and in the Lord.” …
Free will means moral liberty and free will accompanies the rational power.@Vico
But that negates God’s sacrosanct gift to man i.e. Free Will
