There’s this ad on TV I’ve seen a few times. It’s a young man and he’s like dancing in a parking lot of sorts. And then there’s this girl with him. And another couple and etc, etc until there’s tons of people. I thought it was a verizon wireless, ‘everyone in’ or something.

My brother said, “No, it’s worse.”

And “HIV: get yourself tested” (or something close to that) pops up.

We groan, gag and then turn back when the show turns back on.

Anyone else see this? I’m glad I only watch an hour or two of TV a week with ads like these.

Why? We know that sex outside of marriage is immoral, but not everyone does or cares that it is. Quite frankly I would rather have everyone who thinks that they have been exposed to HIV be tested and treated. That way they can protect others from catching this virus. Chances are that if you are having casual, unprotected sex you are not that concerned about your body. What about the woman who becomes pregnant and passes HIV to her baby because se didn’t get tested and didn’t have pre-natal care? Or the man who had a fling in his 20’s and now wants to get married at 30. Shoud he now his HIV status so he doesn’t pass it to his new wife? I think so.

Affirmed,

I don’t think that was the OP’s point at all. I think the OP was lamenting the NEED for such a commercial. She is opining about it being a sign for our times that we need national broadcasts showing hundreds of people across the screen inter-related through sex and needing to be tested for a deadly disease because of their sexual histories.

OP, I agree with you. The TV hasn’t been on in our house for MONTHS! (The last time I remember it being on was to see the conclave.)

There are so many better things to do with our time than watch stuff like that. Like we need any more reminders about the tendencies of our society to either be sitting in front of a boob tube or out having sex…

Good for you and your bro for recognizing it for what it is.

Sure it is needed for our times. But isn’t that a pretty sad statement about who we are as a people?

no, I have not seen it, but since I rarely even watch TV I doubt I missed anything

since the invent of TV-- morality & intelligence went down, & crime, vices & lack of excercise went down-- TV will rot your brain & body

thank you & have a good night
