Does anyone else watch this?

I watch it for fun (obviously, I don’t believe in the magic stuff), but then I got this odd feeling that I shouldn’t be watching it. There’s no risque scenes or anything, but one of the main characters is a “chosen one” and is referred to as the “savior”. (And the “good fairies” from the fairy tales are Catholic nuns in this world.) Other than that, I don’t recall anything that could be possibly sacrilegious…

Any thoughts on this?

I love the show, my wife loves the show, my younger daughter loves the show, my son loves the show. My oldest, a girl, doesn’t like it.

The rest of us make a point of watching. However, we only started watching recently on Netflix and my son and I aren’t caught up yet. (We’re into Season 4 and had to switch from Netflix to Amazon).

My wife and daughter are current with the new episodes.

It’s kind of weird father-son-bonding-time. Every chance we get, “Dad, wanna go watch Once?” (He’s 9 years old). As opposed to, “Dad, wanna go watch the big game?”

I like it so much I avoid all references about it because I don’t want to read any spoilers.

In fact, I took a risk by even reading your post. :o

If you’re going to be scrupulous about television fantasy shows, you will probably find oodles of things to object to. It’s a self-fulfilling prophesy.

“Fairy tales, then, are not responsible for producing in children fear, or any of the shapes of fear; fairy tales do not give the child the idea of the evil or the ugly; that is in the child already, because it is in the world already. Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon. Exactly what the fairy tale does is this: it accustoms him for a series of clear pictures to the idea that these limitless terrors had a limit, that these shapeless enemies have enemies in the knights of God, that there is something in the universe more mystical than darkness, and stronger than strong fear.”
-G.K. Chesterton

The central themes that weave throughout the show are hope, redemption, love, and good always wins.

I’d say the “savior” angle is more of an allusion to Jesus than anything sacrilegious. I’d be more concerned about the magic elements, though I don’t think that they make the show wrong to watch. If we can enjoy Star Wars, then we can enjoy Once Upon a Time.

I did enjoy the show until the first episode of “Frozen 2” made my heart cringe. Haven’t seen it since.

Yes I watch this! It is very fun and creative.

As with any show with hang-cliffs, soap-opera, or multi-character story lines it mAy create false ideas of love to the viewer. It is said that these shows are the equivalent to pornography to men. Men are visual creature and women get caught up in the thought process. Now the show does well to include fraternal love, but focuses more on Eros over agape love. This is mainly done by having flash backs to a characters “youth” or sending the character to a different realm to enhance the Eros attraction; thus, stimulating the woman’s brain to produce dopamine. Now with most things, it’s not bad for us. There are those of us who are more prone to loose self-control with these things. Usually when self-control is being lost, the viewer will long for a more interesting life and start to role play these in their lives (yes men and women both can fall to this but a woman is more apt to do so).

The real reason you should be concerned about the show is because it seems they are actually practicing witchcraft and getting the audience’s participation. It is not a coincidence that the Germanwings flight went down. I suspect that the jewish writers shared their script and coordinated the takedown of the plane with the pentagon and that the flight going down was in concert and timed perfectly to the episode which was shown the day before. Sorry I don’t recall the date of the plane crash.

For me, this is enough to cancel the show.

And the scriptwriters in hollywood should not be sharing their scripts with the pentagon or military and then coordinating attacks. it is evil unholy immoral and unethical not to mention flagrant terrorism.

Is it witchcraft or is it black ops?

TRUTH IS no stranger to fiction, or should that say
FICTION IS no stranger to Truth.

Um…proof?

I have to watch that episode again
I’ll get back to you in a few days

I love the show. There is something people forget…a message that MAGIC COMES WITH A PRICE. (Usually the dark magic)

There’s a podcast that has a Catholic priest commenting (actually he lost access to the second half of the current season of the show due to his location of the Netherlands). If he has no issues…the rest of his panel also is Catholic.

So you’re saying that because a plane crashed the day after an episode of Once Upon a Time aired (actually, it was two days after the episode), you think the two events are connected? The crash was caused by sabotage, not witchcraft; and according to the episode’s synopsis, there’s nothing to do with a plane crash.

Hmm…the truth is out there, people. I’m thinking it was the Illuminati or possibly the Tri-Lateral Commission. They frequently divert attention from themselves by blaming Jewish scriptwriters…and they’ve been known to use Internet forums to do it…:onpatrol:

Indeed. I was wondering how she knew the religious background of the scriptwriters…

That’s the only tv show I watch nowadays…& I don’t have it on basic cable, so YouTube provides. I think of “Once Upon A Time” as a metaphor of Christ’s example or I wouldn’t be watching it. (Remember this is a tv show, so there are contrasts from Jesus’ existence on earth & Emma Swan’s).

In the show, the “savior”/“chosen one”, aka: Emma Swan, is the only one that can truly conquer fear & evil, save the world, & the people in it. Everyone looks to the “savior” for guidance on how to get rid of the powerful evil in the world. Emma doesn’t always know what to do, but finds a way that works for the good of helping others. Her parents chose life for her, now she’s giving life to others in more ways than one. She didn’t abort her son, but gave him to an adoption facility to “give him his best chance”…an example of sacrificial love. Good always wins over evil no matter what.
~Jesus is the savior in our world because without Him, we wouldn’t exist. His love and protection are so powerful, that no evil can come close to destroying us. Good always wins over evil…it’s reality. Yes we have free will, but He urges us to control it by trusting & letting Him guide us along the right path. We may not understand what He asks us to do, but His plan is better than anything else.

Snow White is like the Blessed Virgin Mary. She always tries to look for the good in people (except in a few episodes) and brings joy & hope into the lives of others. It’s in her nature to do good over evil, as though she was born with it. White is part of her name, which signifies purity…purity of heart & mind. Everyone knows that she has that gift to share with others…she is genuine.
~The Blessed Virgin Mary was born without original sin because God chose her to be Jesus’ mother…He knew she would accept his offer because of the genuine person that she is. Her consistency of purity, grace, and goodness continues to inspire people today to be closer to Jesus.

Regina/Evil Queen, Rumplestiltskin/Dark One, Maleficent…etc. are like the devil…always looking for revenge on others to satisfy their damaged heart. They study day & night ways to possess great magic to feel powerful & have control over people, but without it, they are nothing but a speck on the floor…they feel the need for magic to build self-worth or self-confidence. Imaginative fear & hate are their best friends that help them earn opportunities for glory, but in the end, they only bring them down… And they wonder why they don’t have happy endings.

Prince Charming is like Joseph (Mary’s husband; Jesus’ earthly father). He protects his wife, family, and the lives of others through service. It’s in his nature to do good because it is the right thing to do.

Henry is like us. We all are like a child, so inquisitive with life, knowing that we need the “savior” to protect us from the evil curse (original sin). He seeks & finds the “savior”/“chosen one” and in doing so, the “savior” helps & protects him.

The Enchanted Forest is like Heaven. A beautiful place where fairytales or angels can live (in a sense). Without a curse, time is endless & age doesn’t technically exist…it’s like 1 day being 1,000 years.

Fairies are like guardian angels. They are always there to spiritually direct us back to good and back to the “savior.”

All of the characters have similar qualities to catholicism, such as the multiple saints, angels, the devil, & Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Heaven, etc. Just like Lord of the Rings is a famous movie series, so is Once Upon A Time tv series…both have a mix of people who enjoy watching them. In both instances, there is always that “savior” to protect and guide others along the right path to salvation. Jesus is the only “savior” of this world…& if seeing this tv show will help others (like me) understand Christ’s love and care for us, what’s wrong with seeing this tv show?

the writers of the show are actually jewish. they don’t believe in jesus as god or messiah nor mary as mother of the universe. it is only changing in recent episodes due to (name removed by moderator)ut most likely from catholics who may have problems with the interpretation and hidden agenda the show actually started out with… the jews always want revenge and power, they don’t care about love and sacrifice. jews think catholics should sacrifice themselves for today’s jews though. this difference in thinking and orientation has been there for 2000+ years. jews after all have a way different interpretation of the bible than protestants let alone catholics.

walt disney simplified and purified the stories of grimm and anderson. he made it more entertaining for a wide audience that also appeals to little ones in a way they can understand. i agree with those who may point out that this over simplification can be harmful to children and the ideas can be hard to let go of as one ages. i appreciate the show and its different perspective placing it in modern times. i don’t approve of it trying to whitewash historical fact or sanitizing evil to make jews look better and get viewers to drink the poison or eat the apple. satan’s old trick.

on the snow white marian angle: i object to them implying that mary/snow white was not pure as snow and that she does not have the right to be queen. and that she is somehow evil. i realize it is a fictional tale and have often seen the marian angle in snow white.

i like to think of snow white asleep as us awaiting after our death, our savior jesus or the holy spirit to awaken her/us with the breath of the holy spirit into eternal life. a holy kiss of jesus.

in the eyes of jews, jesus and mary are decidedly not the savior(s) but they are perfectly willing to take advantage of christians belief for a buck and get you to sacrifice yourself for them unwittingly. and so i remind you that even christians are not the savior of the jews. and jews perception of a savior is military. jesus is not military. therefore, their interpretation and ours are at odds. Therefore use caution when comparing this to the bible and jesus with the knowledge you must remember that it is written by jews not christians. and they are retelling these fairytales from a villain’s perspective not a hero’s. some would call this sympathy for the devil.

This post added one more paragraph from my original submission. I ran out of time to edit on the previous one.

on the snow white marian angle:
I don’t think anyone is actually linking Snow White to Mary, except for maybe a comment in this thread. I certainly don’t connect the two.

And please, take your concerns and criticisms about Jewish people to a different thread. I rather like discussing “Once,” and don’t want to see the thread closed.
