During his homily, the visiting priest at our 40 Hours Mass this evening gave one of the most moving and pithy descriptions of evangelizing the Catholic faith that I’ve seen yet::
“One beggar showing another beggar where the bread is.”

Is there a source for this, or did he make it up himself?

There was a Protestant hymn writer who was quoted as saying, “Evangelism is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.” His name was, Niles, Daniel Thambyrajah (1908-1970). No homily was associated with the quote that I am aware of.
 
Mark Lowry (Christian singer/comedian, long-time member of the Gaither Vocal Band) used that line in one of his monologues, although he said “food” instead of “bread.” He doesn’t say where he got the line, but I doubt it was original with him.

looking at your tag line I thought of what Carl Sagan said about the music to be included on Explorer 10 (?) the exploratory missile to be sent out into the deep, for possible contact with alien civilizations. When asked if Bach should be included he said (I’m paraphrasing) “no, that would be bragging”.

I’ve used it myself since the first time I heard it, “One beggar showing another where the feast is.”
No, I do not know the original source. It is an apt description of evangelization.
