…she mentioned on one of her post that she would rather be the “another wife”.
If any believer woman is given a choice – 1. be a kept of a millioniare or 2. Be a 2nd/ 3rd/ 4th wife of a poor but pious Muslim , ans should be yes ; I will be the respected wife of a believer rather than having illegal relatioship with a disbeliever .

The young virgin who became a wife ( most probably she was 101 wife of Prophet David (p) ; surely she was a blessed woman . She is lucky than today’s those women who believe they are free & liberal & enjoying with men in a way that is forbidden by God’s laws.

Perhaps, brevity was misplaced on my reply. I would like Muslim Woman, and others, to know that the Bible states that followers of Christ will recognize Him as their Shepherd when called. After all, Muslim Woman was led to this forum for a reason. She may not be aware of God’s plan, but, true conversion to the truth does not, usually, come out of nowhere.

Gospel of St. John:
10:7
So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
10:8
All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them.
10:9
I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
10:11
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
10:12
He who is a hireling and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.
10:13
He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep.
10:14
I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me,
10:15
as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
10:16
And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.
10:17
For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.
I totally agree. Even the hardest Muslim Terrorist can see the light and live a life of grace. Lets just pray that the Holy Spirit that lives in them touch their lives and come to know The Truth, The Way and the Life who is the Lord Jesus Christ.

someone gave example of Adam (p). He had only one wife & see what happened later 🤷
yes , that is another difference between Islam & Christianity. Muslims reject all the dirty allegations against all the Prophets (pbut) . We respect all Prophets , not only Muhammed (p).

Is there any Biblical verse to support your this claim ?

Jesus (p) said ( not the exact words ) if u marry a divorced lady , it’s like adultery. So , even if a woman can get rid of her abusive husband , no pious Christian will marry her . So , what practical / respectful solutions are given to those people who are unhappy in married lives ?
I don’t know what you mean by your reference to Adam and Eve. Please explain.
As regards the Biblical support for events such as David’s adultery, the Bibilical manuscripts for these events are pre-date the Qur’an by several centuries. Are you suggesting that we should ditch the older more supported manuscripts because Muhammad said so??? I am sorry, but that is not even reasonable.
On the the divorce/nullity issue, it seems you did not read my previous post. If a Christian woman had an abusive marriage annulled, she can remarry, as the marriage was not sacramentally valid in the eyes of God. The Catholic Church has the authority to say this based on the following verses.

Mt 16:19-20
I will give you (singular) the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

It is more complicated than this, but the is a basic text in support of the Church’s authority to grant nullity. Pending determination of the nullity, the Church will allow separation; as spouse abuse in not in God’s plan and is sinful. It is peculiar to Christians that Muslims believe God will order such sinfulness. Beating your wife like a child and then desiring intimacy is very odd, to say the least. The Christian may marry again after nullity has been granted. If nullity is not granted, then she may not be remarry in the Church. That goes for the man too. Marriage is not a game or a temporary agree to sleep with each other. It is a Sacrament, through which God’s Grace is disseminated. It is about LOVE, but not some warm, cuddly feeling that our culture calls love. It is LOVE that is characterized by SELF SACRIFICE. If you want to know what it looks like grab a Crucifix! True is self sacrifice! So, when the wife or husband comes down with a terminal illness and there can be no conjugal love, celibacy would be required of the spouse. I guess Islam would allow a man, whose wife is bed-ridden with cancer, to get a 2nd wife, right?
Finally, if a Christian is unhappy in their marriage, my first suggestion would be…see a priest. You may be amazed at how God can transform us, our marriages, and our temporal and eternal lives, if we let Him by saying YES. Let us follow the example of the Blessed Virgen Maria y say Yes.

Right - with this condition that he must act with them justly.

Polygamy in Islamic Law

Dr. Jamal Badawi examines polygamy in the Muslim, Jewish and Christian traditions.

…A man whose wife becomes chronically ill would have one of possible alternatives:
  • He may suppress his instinctive sexual needs for the rest of his life.
  • He may divorce his sick wife at a time when she needs his compassion most, and get married to another woman, thus legally satisfying his instinctive needs.
  • Or he could compromise by keeping his sick wife, and secretly take for himself one or more illicit sex partners.
… The first solution is against human nature. Islam recognises sex and sexual needs and provides legitimate means for their satisfaction. The second solution is clearly less compassionate; especially where there is love between two parties.

Furthermore, divorce is described by the Prophet Muhammad (saw) as the “permitted thing that is hated most by God”. The last solution is plainly against the Islamic teaching which forbids illicit sexual relationships in any form.

…What is the situation in countries that banned polygamy? Do they really enjoy sincere and faithful “monogamy”?

What is the degree of cohesion of the family? Is there any significant number of mistresses, “sweethearts”, and illegitimate children? How observant are married men and women of the strict “monogamous” relationship?

Are infidelity and secret extramarital sexual relationships more moral than the legitimate, legally protected husband-wife relationships, even under polygamy if there is a pressing need for it? Which of the two situations is best?

After all, Islam, by its nature, is a universal religion which is revealed by God to guide people in all places at all times.

Please note that this is a genuine question and I am not trying to be offensive to anyone.

Why does it seem that Islam treats men as if they are animals and have no control over their sexuality. Women have to cover up because it entices men, men can have numerous wives etc. Why can’t a man whose wife is sick control himself and offer up his suffering to God? What if the man’s sick wife doesn’t want him to take another wife? And what happens if the man is sick - is his wife supposed to divorce him to satisfy her own sexual needs? It just seems that there is no sacrifice involved within Islamic marriage - everyone needs to make sure the man’s sexual needs are met. What about a man who doesn’t marry, i.e he doesn’t find a woman he wants to spend his life with. Can’t he be expected to remain celibate and chaste?

With all due respect, the Church founded by Jesus Christ through the apostles, does not play such games. Marriage is until death, unless the marriage is invalid. If two parties had marrying without the intention for permanace, this would be a reason for nullity. This can get complicated, but you, being a Muslim should understand religious complications 😉 . Polygamy is not permitted by the Church and celibacy is required in some instances…for man or woman. It can be done. By the way, can you imagine having colon cancer and 8 months to live and her husband decides that he needs another wife, even before your dead. Sex is not all there is in the world! It is funny that Sunni Islam unanimiously rejects Mut’ah (temporary marriage), yet, by default, all marriages in Islam are open to temporality. What does love mean when you are permitted to divorce your for any reason whatsoever? How can a Muslim man truly say “I love you” when it is only a potentially permanent commitment?

Why is a ‘believer woman’ only given these two unsatisfactory choices? Why wouldn’t she have the choice to say “No, I would prefer to wait for a poor, but pious Muslim who will choose **only me **as his wife, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, forsaking all others.” Why can’t that be a choice?

I was my understanding that God allowed Moses to make concesiones regarding concubines, divorce, and poligamy, becuase of isreals hard heart. Jesus then restored the law to what it was meant to be origanaly (before the fall). Jesus (to me at least) never changed Gods law, but rather showed us how it always was meant to be.

I think maybe we need to remember that God was trying to restore his family little by little. First teaching the eldest then the youger nations.

yes, that’s when you look at scriptures as a whole, in light of Jesus’ teachings. The Quran is not the Bible but a book compiled haphasardly according to length with no coherence or theme and Muhammad picked and chose from laws as suited him, out of context and giving a total blind eye to Jesus’ teachings that is why Muslims neither understand the OT nor the New and when we understand things as one Unit, they rely on single passages devoid of context to defend Muhammad.

Jay53 : Why wouldn’t she have the choice to say "No…

A Muslim woman is allowed to put a condition in her marraige contract that her husband won’t take other wife . In that case , in future , if her husband needs to re-marry , he will first have to divorce her .

I think , it’s better if one must not force him to do so. As a woman can end her married life , she can go for divorce if necessary ( if she does not want to share husband with another wife ).

Muslims are encourgaed to get married . Divorce is not encouraged but allowed if necessary. Before getting married , a husband or wife can’t say that ok , I will divorce u after 5 months or 8 months etc. They must try best to save the marriage . If somehow it does not work out , then divorce is allowed.

Pologamy is an alternate for divorce. A husband is allowed to take other wife without divorcing 1st wife. In that case , wife will go for divorce if she wants .

don’t you see something strange in a law that gives men the freedom for polygamy which might result in divorce and breaking of a family which Allah hates? i mean, if Allah hates divorce, why does he give a law that gives a green card for divorce?

what he meant is that divorce in Islam is easy which makes it akin to temporay marriage.

Islam does not say that it’s a must for men to take more than one wife. If one is happy with one wife , if he can control his desire despite her sickness , it’s ok if does not re-marry . But what if one can’t control himself ?

Today’s men made laws are forcing him either to divorce his wife or cheat her or depriving himself till his or her death. Islam is giving a practical solution in that case .

Remember it’s not a must to take more than one wife , it’s allowed with condition . Earlier there was no maximum limit , Islam fixed that a man can have maximum 4 wives .

i think that knowing he has other options will make him less favourable for sacrifice. Knowing he has other options might result in divorce, hurting the other wife’s feeling, hurting the feelings of his sons who might not like to know about a woman other than their mother ecc.

Muslim Woman:

You have a very negative idea of man. Any God fearing man would be able to ‘control’ himself. A man who resorts to crime and sin such as rape and adultery respectively does so not necessairly because he cannot ‘control’ himself. Sometimes it is due to a sickness of the mind which, may not be solved by marrying another wife.

I was watching a show from an Islamic middle eastern country that was following certain people around with their cameras.

One of the people was a young girl with a baby and an old man wanted to marry the girl and she asked for how long and he said ‘for 1 hour’. She wanted to know what her ‘bridal price’ would be and eventually persuaded him to marry her for 2 weeks and they haggled for a price. He then went and got the imman and he married them and they signed the legal marriage documents which stipulated the 2 week period and the ‘bridal price’.

She didn’t last the 2 weeks - a few days later she received all the money and never went back there again.

Lets just take the scenario of a person being bed ridden and his/her spouse who can not control himself.

You said that a Muslim man can have a another wife in the above scenario since “What if one can’t control himself” but doesn’t want a divorce.

Now, what happens if it was the man who was sick and the wife who “can’t control” herself but doesn’t want a divorce?

By the way, not all scholars and schools of thought in classical or contemporary agree that a woman may add such a condition to a marriage contract.

God did not allow women to have more than one husband at a same time . So , if she can’t control herself , she must end her married life first . Wait till Iddat period finishes ( say 3 months ) , then re-marry .
