One Last Question (I hope)

Well I finally had a good long 2 hrs and 45 min. talk w/ my preist and felt much better after recieving absolution. Not long after this little incident happened. I was asked how my confession went and I said good and revealed somthing the preist told my about himself that was related to one of my situations. It’s not neccesarily a sinful thing but it was his business and I felt guilty about saying it and changed the subject…so are my scrupules at it again or did I violate the confession seal or something

By the way, I was thinking about mentioning this tidbit of info about my preist before but thought that I better not, but later said it anyways in conversation.

The seal of Confession applies to the Priest - he cannot discuss what you say in Confession.

The Penitent is not bound by a seal. While it might not be in good taste to discuss what was told during your confession, unless the Priest specifically requested you “keep this secret” (and I’ve never heard a priest say that), you are not sinning by telling someone what happend during your confession.

I think it wasnt a good idea, butas long as you wernt backbiting or anything, it was not a sin.I think you should tell the Priest you told and ask him if its ok.

The priest is well aware that what he says to you* isn’t *covered by the seal of the confessional. Whatever it may have been, rest assured if he’d wanted it kept secret he wouldn’t have told you. You therefore did nothing wrong by mentioning it to others.

:nope: - as per kage’s post. The priest must keep it secret, you don’t have to. Like a doctor can’t tell anyone what you’re seeing them about, but you can talk about your illnesses and their treatment all you want.

CCC 1467 and 2490 are about the seal of confession. You won’t find a Church document saying that we can talk about our confessions, though, because of the impracticality of saying what we are allowed to do.
