the ticket that wants to tear children limb from limb or crush the skulls of children about to be born. They’re also against providing medical care to babies who survive an abortion procedure. That’s evil.

The Church, time and again, has explained that abortion doesn’t compare to war or the death penalty. It’s at the pinnacle of evil, in other words, pre-eminent. These priests aren’t going to tell you that.

Actually, the article was about the Biden/Harris policy on abortion. She said nothing about Republican politics, but she quotes Cardinal Ratzinger and the USCCB.

If some Catholics would just admit they a) don’t care about Biden’s abortion policy or b) they agree with him I could take them more seriously. As it is they do mental gymnastics and use a throwing things at the board and seeing if it will stick approach.

If this is intended for me, then you should know that I do care about abortion and have acted in my personal life in a way to ensure that I am never a father of an aborted child. I do, however, think that the pro-life movement seeking a political solution to abortion has failed miserably for 50 years and will continue to fail and that, to actually reduce the number of abortions, a new approach must be taken We again saw that failure this year when the Supreme Court found a law restricting abortion unconstitutional. In the meantime, I have no trouble finding proportional reasons to vote for pro-choice candidates without the mental gymnastics that you speak of.
That you thought it was intended for you is telling. I honestly forgot you even existed.

Kind of funny since I was the only person on this thread that was critical of One Mad Mom.
These threads are a dime a dozen of Catholics doing everything they can to excuse the pro-abortion policies of Biden and his cohorts. I honestly lost count. If you disagree with the Church that’s fine. I just request that you admit it.

Do you disagree with the Church’s teaching on abortion and the preeminence in this country of the issue?

A new approach must be taken?
Such as?
It’s very easy to note that things ‘have not changed’ in the long run (for example, 1992 etc) and argue for a ‘new approach’.

I’m saying WHAT new approach?

Ever tried to open a stubborn jar? “Lefty loosy’ for 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes. . . You could stop after say 4 minutes, “Gosh dang, this ‘lefty loosey’ thing just isn’t working. I need a whole new approach to opening this jar”. . .or you could continue on and literally ONE SECOND LATER the lid is open.

You do not KNOW that the ‘current approach’ isn’t working. You don’t know that everything which has been done and is being done throughout the US and the world is not going to result, and maybe sooner than you think, in ‘the jar opening’.

Do you know (apropos of yesterday’s 100th anniversary of US female suffrage) how long it took for women to get the vote in this country? In the end, the vote didn’t come about because people complained that the tactics were not working and came up with new ones. . . It took a long time for ‘the powers that be’ to recognize and accept.

And if you bring up the reversal (R v W), that didn’t come into being overnight either.

AND there are the 18th and 21st amendments. Prohibition was the law of the land what, 12 years or so —but it was reversed.

So it is too early to speak of things ‘not working’ IMO but again, if you’re right, you must have an idea of what ‘new tactics’ could work, right?

So you could share them with us. Perhaps tactics that worked for other similar causes?

Cool. Sorry if it came off any way. I’m just tired of the attempt to make Biden into a saint and/or justify his pro abortion policies. It’s okay to just say “I’m voting for him because he’s not Trump” or “I’m voting for him for proportionate reasons.”

You do realize that we elders have been putting money into social security from what we have earned over 45-50 plus years of working? That social security has been PILLAGED for decades and is in danger of being wiped out?

That, with your ‘throw more money’ approach, it will once again be the working, including the working poor, who are subsidising others and getting less and less themselves?

The working mother who is just over the poverty line will be paying for another, perhaps working, perhaps not, to get just over the poverty line as well.

I’m also here to tell you, hon, that the elders living on social security often live in poverty. Take somebody like my nearly 91 year old mother. She worked hard her life long, indeed was still working at age 72, 19 years ago. Her SS is a princely $800 a month. Think you could live comfortably on that? When she started working back in the late 1940s people made $10 a WEEK! I’m 2 years shy of full retirement and despite savings it’s gonna be tight especially with COVID hitting my savings. We aren’t all retiring doctors, lawyers, bankers, etc. We aren’t all married with a two income SS to look forward to. A lot of us have high medical expenses. We’re meeting mortgages. We have families.

You know what, even with all of that I would gladly contribute to helping out (and I already do actually) the poor, especially women and children, IF it truly were the case that the only, or even the MAJOR reason, for abortion were that people ‘would be poor’. But it isn’t the only reason, or the major reason, and until life is correctly made to be ‘more’ than how much a person is ‘worth’ (i.e., the man or woman with a lot of $$ is ‘better’ than the man or woman with few $$), then ‘throwing money’ or judging issues based on ‘affordability’ is meaningless.

Didn’t we learn ANYTHING from COVID?? The ‘frontline’ and ‘essential’ workers were most often those with FEW $$. DIdn’t they show they were worth far more than MONEY? Isn’t it clear now that demanding that people have a job with a ‘prestige name’ and sneering at ‘poor garbagemen’ or “Ralph Kramden busdrivers’ or ‘grocery workers with barely a high school degree’ and ‘dead end jobs’ and ‘poverty level income’ ignores the truth worth of the individual?

People don’t think big enough these days. When I’m president, I’m gonna give everyone 1 billion dollars each!! That’ll fix things!
