And the re-unification of the SSPX with the Vatican. It has been too long and Pope Benedict XVI knows it. I pray to God that the Holy Spirit gives Him the broad shoulders to carry the load. I have faith that He has.

Side question: I am reading about the history of Catholicism and I noticed that there were a some young Popes. By young, I mean in their fifties or younger.

Is there a reason why most Popes become Popes in their later years?

Say the black, do the red is a phrase that is perhaps the key to understanding what the “reform of the reform” means. Basically, in the Missal the ‘black’ texts refers to the words, the ‘red’ to postures or actions - so the priest must do exactly what is in the rubrics and not do his own thing. Make sense?

Ordinary Form - Mass that has some vernacular (must retain Latin though, according to VII), is most common in the world today, the Mass of Pope Paul VI

A translation isn’t necessary if it’s celebrated the way it was promulgated.

And FWIW, it has been reported that the Italian bishops have voted not to change the *per tutti *(“for all”) clause in the consecration.

Probably due to the fact that life expectancy is now longer. (Fifty was considered very old many centuries ago.) Even with all the young Popes elected in all those years of long ago, JPII served as the longest (or second longest?) term as Pope.

Blessed John Paul II served as the second longest Pope. Pius IX served the longest.

Pope Benedict IX was not only about 18 when he became pope, but he was pope three different times. Such things are unlikely today, but not impossible. If I remember correctly the conclave can elect any catholic male who has reached the age of reason. (about 7 years old)

Actually by that reasoning then Blessed John Paul II was the third longest reigning Pope. St. Peter, Pius IX, and then Blessed John Paul II.
