Two questions (answer both):

If I had $1,000,000, how much would I owe my brother?

What if my brother had already taken $1,000,000 from me, how much would I owe my brother?

Neither of these is a trick question.

You would not owe your brother anything. However I charge $100,000 per question answered so send me a check when your money comes in.

You’ve got it. When my million comes in, I’ll send you $1 per year.

The situation is closer to my second question. My brother has already taken the one million dollars. Yeah, that’s pretty much how I feel, but I need some more comments to help me straighten this out in my head.

As has been stated, you certainly don’t owe your brother any portion of what you win or otherwise gain - not unless you promised to share your winnings with him, or he contributed half the cost of the lottery ticket or something.

Secondly - if your brother literally has already borrowed $1 million, or any lesser sum of money or material goods, from you, and has not paid you back, then you not only don’t owe him anything but have every right (assuming that he’s fit and able to work) to require him to pay back what he owes you when he’s able.

Again, with the proviso that you’ve attained that million without his help, haven’t previously stated that he need not pay you back what he’s borrowed or anything. Again, if he went halves in the lottery ticket you’d probably (subject to above conditions) be within your rights to keep a portion of his half-million equivalent to the assistance you’ve given him.

Having said all this … ‘whatsoever you do to the least of these my brothers, that you do to me …’. If you have the means and your brother is in need you should in Christian charity help him.

Well, if you had $1M, Big Brother Barry would want at least half of it up front, and the rest later.

But more to your question, it’s not a matter of how much but how you take care of your brother. Do you buy him a fish every time he’s humgry or buy him a fishing pole and teach him how to use it?

You should give him back all of what you took from him. A sin such as stealing requires reparation be made for forgiveness.
What if my brother had already taken $1,000,000 from me?
It does not make your sin go away.
