The Urgency of Hell

It is of faith that Heaven exists for the good and Hell for the wicked. Faith teaches that the pains of Hell are eternal, and it also warns us that one single mortal sin suffices to condemn a soul forever because of the infinite malice by which it offends an infinite God. With these most positive principles in mind, how can I remain indifferent when I see the ease with which sins are committed, sins that occur as frequently as one takes a glass of water, sins and offenses that are perpetrated out of levity or diversion? How can I rest when so many are to be seen living continually in mortal sin and rushing in this blind manner to their eternal destruction? No indeed, I cannot rest, but must needs run and shout a warning to them. If I saw anyone about to fall into a pit or a fire, would I not run up to him and warn him, and do all in my power to help him from falling in? Why should I not do this much to keep sinners from falling into the pit and fires of Hell?

Neither can I understand why other priests who believe the selfsame truths as I do, as we all must do, do not preach or exhort their flock so that they might avoid this unbearable eternity of Hell. It is still a source of wonder to me how the laity – those men and women blessed with the Faith – do not give warning to those who need it. If a house were to catch fire in the middle of the night, and if the inhabitants of the same house and the other townsfolk were asleep and did not see the danger, would not the one who first noticed it shout and run along the streets, exclaiming: “Fire! Fire! In that house over there!” Then why should there not be a warning of eternal fire to waken those who are drifting in the sleep of sin in such a way that when they open their eyes they will find themselves burning in the eternal flames of Hell?

Zeal for the salvation of souls spurred St. Anthony Mary Claret to preach an estimated 25,000 sermons, write 144 books, found three religious orders, preach countless missions, and in six years as a bishop, confirm over 300,000 and validate more than 9,000 marriages. Starting as a missionary in Spain and the Canary Islands, he was later appointed Archbishop of Santiago, Cuba, and thereafter confessor to the Queen of Spain. But in all he did, he labored so ceaselessly, so tirelessly, and so fruitfully for the cause of Christ and His Church that he is simply called a “Modern Apostle.”

Miracles surrounded his work, and he possessed the gifts of prophecy and the reading of hearts. He often saw Our Lord and Our Lady (to whom he was especially devoted), receiving from them instruction, encouragement, and prophecies. Driven by the overwhelming motivation of saving immortal souls from eternal damnation, St. Anthony Mary Claret directed all his energies to this end, finding all other goals worthless in comparison.

If you are a better person because of what you have suffered in this life, then you’re better off than you seem to realize. Too many others cannot make that claim.
I do not claim to be a better person, indeed, I’m not even sure of what that means. But knowing the sort of despair, torment and hopelessness that people can experience has helped me understand why people act as they do.

I am no better than anyone, just lucky life hasn’t pushed me that far…yet.

I break, have broken a thousand times, but having been at the mercy of others who aimed their despair at me, I try not to turn my misery against others, that is what I’ve learned. As much as possible, I keep it to myself. I try not to perpetuate more hopelessness.

Reading her profile at Catholic online, and how when she was 20 years old she had chosen God’s way, it makes me really sad about our Muslims females, in Islamic culture when the girl becomes mature, her parents start thinking of her marriage, her mother and her grandmother start teaching her how to deal with her future husband, how to cook for him, how to serve him, how to obey him (i.e., all those earthy stuff), thereby, the girl would grow up with marriage concept as her top priority, there is no concept in Islam that a female or a male would devote her or his entire life for God only without any earthy ties, but in Christianity, we see such examples of those Saints whom at young age choose to be with God without any earthy ties, I deeply admire that.

However, there is any online version of St. Faustina diary on the internet, I couldn’t find any, and I can’t order the hard-copy because Satan won’t let it pass through our Saudi’s customs.

This makes me fear hell, but it does not make me love God.
well, frankly, sometimes i don’t exactly love God either… (long story… and just being honest…) but we cannot change God into our own likeness… or whatever other likeness we may wnt to change Him into… He is who He is…
why would anything with true power resort to this?
He gave power to his creatures… to choose good or evil… If people choose evil, it stands to reason that they will inherit evil… No unclean thing will enter Heaven (Rev 21:27?)… If a soul does not rid itself of sin before death or in Purgatory, he/she will end up separated from God… A person is given numerous chances in this life to choose God… God does absolutely everything He can to get the person on the right track… ifthat person rejects all that… Whose fault is it?? Not God’s…
But truly…it is hard to choose to love a being that would allow someone to suffer thus if they had the power to prevent it.
their suffering is that of regret… They knew in life that they were doing wrong… They felt regret in this life… but ignored that regret and kept on sinning… till their consciences were … gone…
Have you ever been the victim of diabolical evil?? When that happens, it is not difficult to believe that God would hate it so much…
NO ONE would choose that. So don’t speak to me of free will. No one…would choose to spend eternity that way.
Well, people DO choose it… they choose it when they know what God wants (love of others, etc) and go against it anyway…

Then people BETTER make the right choices in life.
Even i, as a devout Roman Catholic… have a hard time believing this kind of thing (24/7… i have my moments)… but when i see certain kinds of evil (abortion, pornography, sexual perversion… etc)… I know that as much as I hate sin, God hates it more…

God is love… He hates what is not love… He loves the sinner and does everything He can to get the sinner to renounce the sin and turn to Him… If the person does not do that, well, again, we cannot blame God…

thanks for all those posts on St. Faustina - and also the writeup on the ‘Pains of Hell’. I have some reading to do.

Sounds more like this Faustina had a lifelike dream, than an actual revalation of hell.
Spoken like a true Protestant… She has been declared a saint… that doesn’t mean we Catholics have to accept absolutey everything she said as gospel truth… but she says Jesus took her into Hell… I tend to believe her. NO, actualy i do believe her…
First of all: Hell does not YET exist contain anyone.
Huh??
It is the place that is prepared for satan and his demons, and it is where the unbelievers will be sent at the final judgement.
Our judgment comes at the ends of our lives…
Secondly: The “different tortures for different sins”-part makes this “vision” not only shout, but indeed SCREAM “I am not a divine revalation”. That thought is thoroughly unbiblical, and probably has more to do with a human desire for revenge.
What biblical passage does it contradict? Why do you make such a claim and then not give any support??

Revenge? St. Faustina was NOT into revenge. She prayed for and did penances for her enemies… and gave herself totally for sinners…

and another thing: Where do you think our human desire for “revenge” (justice) comes from? We are created in God’s image… If we hate evil (particulary when it is perpetrated against ourselves), how much more so does God hate it??
But at least I now know where Dante got his inspiration from…
apparently NOT… Dante came long before St. Faustina…

So, who are the more evil - those men who led such regimes/idiologies or those who followed them and did nothing to stop it?
well… Marian apparitions tell us that many people end up in hell… and people like Hitler and Stalin , etc… and all those who followed them…

kinda proves her point… 😦

This is a rather childish, and unfortunately common attitude. Saying that nobody would choose to go to hell is like saying that nobody chooses to go to prison. Of course they do! Every human being with even a basic understanding of right and wrong knows that everything has a consequence. If you choose certain behaviors, you cannot then argue that you did not choose the consequences of those behaviors.
So true… although i would add that many pepole sin without realizing the FULL consequences… If we knew the full consequences of wht we were doing, we woiuldn’t do 90% of what we do… or maybe even 100%… but God doesn’t send us to hell just because we are ignorant… To whom more is given… more is required… but if not much is given, meaning the person isn’t raised with much a sense of right nd wrong… well, all i know is that God judges people perfectly justly and knowing that, we can all… rest assured that we have nothing to worry about…

1: That is MY point: This was not a vision of hell. A lifelike dream perhaps.
If you don’t believe the Cahtolic saints, maybe you should try www.SpiritLessons.com, a Protestant site. I don’t feel 100% about that site (some stories there) because… well, Long story… but Mary Baxter’s story conforms w/ St. F’s… and then there is that one guy - Weiss?? His story does also… NOne of these accounts is in conflict w/ Scripture as i know it… (and at the risk of sounding prideful or whatever, i know it better than a lot of people… ). I am not so sure about the other stories at that site… they may very well be “dreams”… or what have you… although they agree with M. Baxter’s and Weiss’ description to a point…
2: Scripture does not teach this kind of hell divided into sections according to one’s sin.
I don’t recall her saying anything about it being divided into sections…
And that still leaves the question: According to which sin will sinners be assigned? All have committed more than one kind…
Does it matter? The point is, you are going to suffer and be separated, permanently from God… if you aren’t “…perfect as the Father in Heaven is perfect”

I indeed do have a very childish attitude.
are you being humble… or sarcastic? 😃
One cannot choose what one does not know.
But one does know right from wrong, godly from ungodly… One knows when one is at enmity w/ God… and has choices every step of the way in life…
Even the worst human, who wreaked the greatest suffering and havoc does not deserve to suffer thus for all of eternity.
As you say yourself:
But I am not God, so it’s not my call.
Have you ever been raped? Have you ever had someone do something really unjust and horrible to you?? Then you will know something of how God feels about evil… He hates it… because He cares about His people (everyone) and does not want evil & horror to happen to them… (St. John 4:8). When evil happens to people, it happens to God (St. Matthew 25:31)… People forget that… So, basically, God takes all this abuse from people… (through his followers)… and then, what - @ the end of their wicked lives, htey are supposed to get away with all that - some being guilty of even killing (abortion) God??? God himself??
No, i don’t have a problem beliving in a God who is so holy and good that He will not tolerate such hateful, demon-possessed people to be in His eternal Presence…
My suffering in life has made me more merciful toward people. .
i have mercy on those who are truly sorry… Those who are not sorry… Well, i pray for them… I pity them the most… but that doesn’t mean i want to be in their presence any more than God does…
St. Faustina suffered a lot for sinners… they get to the point where they don’t believe Jesus will have mercy on them… but He never rejects anyone… abortionists, pornographers, etc. Even Stalin and Hitler could have been forgiven… if they had only repented… (& god knows whether they did or not)…

"First of all - why does it appear as if you’re quoting “inJESUS” when you’re quoting me?

Now - to the post:

1: I accept no “testimony” that goes against what Scripture teaches. Be they Roman-Catholic or protestant.
I do not doubt that those people, and Faustina for that matter, believed that they had a geniune experience.
I ALSO do not doubt for a second that Hell; eternal damnation, is a very, very real possibility.
What I DO doubt, because Scripture contradicts it, is the claim that hell exists now. Not because I have a viewpoint that depends on this, but simply because I believe it is not true. I’m interested first and foremost in the truth.

“I don’t recall her saying anything about it being divided into sections”

That is a neccessity (typo) for the “punishment according to sin”-claim which she DOES make.
“Alright then…fornicators HERE…paedophiles HERE…“traitores” HERE…”

"Does it matter? The point is, you are going to suffer and be separated, permanently from God… if you aren’t “…perfect as the Father in Heaven is perfect” "

It DOES matter in determining the validity of the so-called revelation. As many people inhere have pointed out time and again: God is not the God of confusion.

LutheranDK;3806644 said:
a vision is something that will happen, not necessarily something that happened. It is like a prophecy/depiction of something that did not happen yet.
I believe that both the robber and the murderer will be eternally lost if they do not repent and come to Christ before they die, as will all unbelievers.
And, both the robber and the murderer will be saved if they DO, as will all believers.

Now, for those who perish:
The notion that God has prepared a special kind of punishment for THESE sins…another for THOSE, etc, is basically unscriptural (and let’s leave the problem of what sin to be punished according to, since all have sinned in more ways than one), because that would mean that God had prepared Hell for humans, which Scripture clearly tells us He has not.
Hell was prepared for satan and his demons - and it is their place of eternal torment, not their dominion to rule over like God rules in Heaven.

the Catholic Church NEVER contradicts Scripture… Protestant churches do, howevdr…
What I DO doubt, because Scripture contradicts it, is the claim that hell exists now.
Where do you think Satan is? And why wouldn’t a person who has served him and never repented, not go to be with his “god” as soon as he dies… Where did you get the idea that Hell is not in existence now???
. I’m interested first and foremost in the truth.
Well, Christ established only One Church… Taht is the truth, right? After all, why would He want many churches, all teaching conflicting beliefs/practices??? Makes no sense… As you say, God is not the author of confusion… One Church… One… count 'em… So, if you want truth, you have to be in the One Church that Truth Incarnate, otherwise known as Jesus Christ, established…
the “punishment according to sin”-
does not mean, as you think"
…fornicators HERE…paedophiles HERE…“traitores” HERE…"
It means you will be punished according to your sins. In one of the stories @ SpritLessons.com a person who was into perverse sexual sin was punished by having this beast copulate with her…only it was NOt pleasurable, as it is in this life… However one uses his/her body for sin, that is how the punishment will go…
"Does it matter? The point is, you are going to suffer and be separated, permanently from God… if you aren’t “…perfect as the Father in Heaven is perfect” "
It DOES matter in determining the validity of the so-called revelation…
i don’t think it matters all that much, because, as stated elsewhere: Whether you believe this revelation or not, the important thing (to me and other logical creatures) is

**Why take a chance?? **

. But knowing the sort of despair, torment and hopelessness that people can experience has helped me understand why people act as they do.
i have often said this same thing… but agian, i can only have pity on someone who repents, who wants to make his life and others’ better… someone who Tries… God does not throw away anyone who Tries…
I keep it to myself. I try not to perpetuate more hopelessness.
yet there are those who do not choose to do this kind of good… They have been wronged and/or feel that they have been wronged, so they wrong others… and never repent… You would not want to have someone like that living in your house with you for the rest of yor life, would you??

However, there is any online version of St. Faustina diary on the internet, I couldn’t find any, and I can’t order the hard-copy because Satan won’t let it pass through our Saudi’s customs.
i really feel for you… i know what oppression is like. This country isn’t perfect, you know…

Anyway, i cn tell you that she was very human and yet she loved Jesus and when He asked her to suffer for Him, she said Yes… She didn’t have to - he told her she would be saved anyway… but she chose to suffer for sinners…

I like reading her diary because she went thorugh what many of us (if not all of us) go through… dealing with difficult people… not always wanting to do things God’s way… etc…

So what’s it like being Christian in Saudi Arabia?? Are Christians there not allowed to practice their faith very well??

How do you explain people like Hitler who was a Catholic who chose what he did?

Or how about mohammed, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Che, and all those who behaved as they did in this life? They all tortured and killed way too many people, that we can only guess, in this life. And some commanded their followers, and others just followed with no command, their same behaviors after they died. If any of them had a physical problem - then God will judge them accordingly. Sometimes a physical problem doesn’t mean they did not know right from wrong though - so that is something else to consider.

We are not their judges and as for God being this or that - God is God and I will leave it to Him to judge us all.

Personally, I would say that we should ensure it doesn’t happen again and do what we can to control what we have the power to control.
HITLER WAS ONLY BORN A CATHOLIC, HE CONVERTED TO PROTESTANISM WHEN THE ATROCITIES STARTED…so please stop using the term he was Catholic when he wasn’t in his later life when it was more important.
