Just when I thought I was getting it together! A bit of research and knowledge sure can burst a bubble fast!

In some reading and research this morning, I discovered that my marriage is not valid in the Church since my husband and I were married by a non-denominational minister in a non-denominational church that’s actually part of a living history museum.

What I am finding however is conflicting information about whether or not I can continue to receive communion. I went to Mass this past Tuesday at the invitation of the priest to whom I counseled with and gave confession on Monday (first confession in almost 20 years for those not familiar with me). I had mentioned in our discussion that I’m married and while my husband is Catholic by birth and education, he is not practicing. Father did not address this during the course of our discussion or after my confession, so I went to Mass Tuesday and received communion with a thankful heart.

Now - I discover that I should not receive communion?

I have called Father and left a voicemail for him regarding this matter since it now has me in knots!

Here, I’m just getting back into the flow of things and now this!

Anyone else been in this situation and what did you do?

Thanks!

=)

Well if your having marital relations no you can’t go to communion. But all you have to do is get your marriage convalidated. We did last summer and I’m so happy we did. Talk to your priest about it.
