people rioted over cartoons of mohamed yet were relatively silent about 911. that says a lot about what is offensive to their faith.
yep. but its quite all right to hook up bombs to pregnant women, kids suffering from mental disabilities. and killing Jewish reporters. they are not too upset about these things either. but God forbid you draw a cartoon:eek: does anyone else think they have it a little backwards?

Thanks Janet 🙂 I believe in order to understand the Koran, we need to do more than just read or Google passages. We need to understand the times that these books of faith were compiled.
You will not learn much about islam from the koran you will learn more from the hadith and the most popular commentary on them both. We ask what would Jesus do and look to the new testament. When they want to know what would mohamed do they look to the hadith.

I don’t know if being a slave of God is a misinterpretation of Islam. Personally I could never comprehend this “slave of God” theology of Islam. Maybe by virtue of my Christian baptism, I am graced with the faith of callling God "Abba Father"as a Child of God and not a slave. Maybe someone can explain what it means to be a “slave” of God?
read this book en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infidel_(book

You will learn a lot about being raised muslim, its a very good book and educational.

interesting. muhammed once he had “received” the koran, went to his jewish neighbors and attempted to convert them. they laughed at him. so he got his band of peacful muslims and slaughtered them. nope no mis interpretation. also look at how they treat their own. if a woman is raped in one of their countries, the perpetrator is not tried. she is. if she is fortunate, she may only get a long prison term. otherwise these peaceful people will stone her to death for adultry. this is not what i believe these are simply facts. also have muslim friends who are peaceful. but at its core it is a very violent and bloody movement. they believe you are either of the house of islam, or you are an infidel. trust me you would not get the same courtesy and open mindedness from these folks if they were in charge. research how and what they did to take over egypt and what they did to the Coptic Christians. God bless you and yours.

I am posting the right translation of the verses that you have presented. I know the translation is done by an old time translator of Quran who was gentle and he/she did not know that people will take wrong advantage of his/her words. The christian and many Muslims have been misled by the casual translation of verses.
Which translation are you using?
I only have the Abdullah Yusuf Ali translation of the Qur’an physically at hand… (New Edition with Qur’anic Text (Arabic), Revised Translation, Commentary and Newly Compiled Comprehensive Index by amana publications)

spn, Islam is a religion of Peace. If the majority Muslims are quiet on the subject, it does not change the peaceful nature of the religion. The violent muslims are very few. The majority is non-violent.
You know, planten, you may be right. But to my knowledge, there is nothing akin to a central magesterial authority in Islam, so any violent interpretation of the Koran by any group of Muslims following any number of violence-prone imams is no less valid than the supposed peaceful ones. To be fair, there are sects calling themselves “Christian” that have some crazy interpretations of Scripture (Westboro, anyone?). But at least the Christian world has the recognized gold standard, the Catholic church, by which various marginal and not-so-marginal interpretations may be measured.

I admit that Muslims are not doing things well in these days. But they are not abusing Jesus and that does not cause blame on Islam.
On the contrary, Muslims abuse Christ everytime they attack a Christian. We are all the Body of Christ, with Jesus as our head.

When churches are firebombed in Malaysia because a Malaysian judge said the Christians could call God Allah in newspapers, Jesus is being abused.

When churches damaged by violence are refused permission to rebuild or repair, Christ is being abused.

When Christians are gunned down leaving Mass on Christmas Eve by Muslims, Muslims are abusing Christ.

When Christian girls are abducted and forcibly married to Muslim men, Muslims are abusing Christ.

When Muslims say that Jesus Christ is not God but only a minor prophet, Muslims are abusing Christ.

When Christians are attacked, beaten to death, their homes burned down, their churches demolished, simply for being Christian, Muslims are abusing Christ.

May the blood of these martyrs be a witness both to Muslims and to ourselves.

May the Precious Blood of Jesus descend over all those who deny Christ and bring them to the Truth and everlasting life.

Planten…how can you say that the Christians are helping violence in Islam? That’s like saying that someone with no control over you has made you do something that you didn’t want to do!

That’s ludicrous.

Mommy…my brother made me throw the milk all over the floor! He got me mad and since I can’t think on my own I did what he told me to do!
spn, you are right. It is the Muslims who are to be blamed. They are following a wrong theology. You are helping them, aiding and abetting that they are following the right theology, that That is islam

I wish that you did not dig out things from the Quran out of context to label islam as a violent religion. I do not want to discuss any of that. You would like to separate the sin from the sinner. Here also you should separate the sinners from real Islam. Thanks. We hope it could help to bring down the bigots more quickly.

The Muslim Fanatics are violent because you are also saying that Islam is a violent religion. You are blaming Islam due to the bad deeds of the Muslim fanatics. What these fanatics are doing is not right. It is not islam.

The burning and damage to churches is anti-Islamic. That is not to be the deed of any Muslim. Only a kafir will do that type of bad work. It is the duty of the Muslim religious leadership ( the Imams) to teach the Muslims not to do such bad deeds.

Another problemis that the present day Muslims do not have any religious leader (The Imam). They do not have any spiritual leader. All they have are many political leaders.

Topic: **One Thing People Misinterpret about Islam **

There is not one thing that Muslims mis-interpret. There is a whole lot of things (more than a dozen) being misunderstood, mis-interpretted. But let us take just one item now, say the matter of Jihaad with weapons.

There is no such thing in Islam to spread or preach Islam by sword. But Maudoodi sahib and some Egyptians (Hasan al Binna and Qutub) had preached and prescribed the Jihaad with sword. Why was that??. Maudoodi sahib did it in 1928 A.D. by one of his books, the first book that he wrote. he did not know what he was doing?.

The world is a global village. There is not to be any religious war (Jihaad) now. There is not to be any Jizyah ( peace tax). The Muslim leaders should know that Jizyah is a tax for the non-Muslims who want to remain non-combatants in the war zone.

That tax is only to be levied by Muslims when advancing into enemy territory and occupying an area of non-Muslim population. When there is not to be any Jihaad now, there is no question of Jizyah. Yet, some Muslims in some Muslim countires are hoping to collect Jizyah from non-Muslims. That is the height of foolishness. They have no right to do that. The Muslims had not occupied and overtaken any non-Muslim land. How come they can claim Jizyah from their citizens?.

That business of Jizyah in Muslim hopes has double harmful material in it. First one is the wrong idea of levying Jizyah for which they have no right.

The second sin is to deny the government jobs to the non-Muslims. That is also very bad. That is connected with the idea of Jizyah.

Such thing is not done in any secular country, India, U.K. America or Canada… What will be the result?? The Muslims will suffer due to such bad ideas.

The Muslims are to live peacefully in their own countries as well as in foriegn countries. They should not harbor any fanatic criminals in their lands… Otherwise they will be obliterated.

Most of my these posts are directed honestly in good faith towards Muslims. They should think over and consider the various points.

Myself is comfortable with peaceful ideas. Any person of any faith who comes to my door, I invite him/her inside and offer edibles, drinks (non-alcoholic). If they accept, well and good. Otherwise I do not press upon them. In France, I used to offer the wine too.

I had a few guests, JW’s (Three times), a Hindu, a Catholic and a few more. I welcomed them and had good talk with them. The first time two JW’s (husband and wife) came, they did not eat anything and left some Tower booklets with me. The later time one JW man came and he was a good friend. He enjoyed eating with me. In his early life he had been a Hindu and then a Muslim and then he became a JW. So many conversions.

Here I have to tell a story about the great Prophet of God, Abraham a.s.

He did not used to eat good meals unless he had some guest. Once he did not have any guest for many days and went without any decent (foraml) meal. Then he spotted some unknown person and brought him home for a meal. A good meal was prepared.

When the two sat down to eat, the guest broke the bread in a special way which was well known for the fire-worshippers (majoosis of Iran). Abraham was very annoyed that a pagan was sitting with him at the meal. He did not like any pagan. So Abraham abused the guest and told him to get off.

The guest got up without eating and left the place.

Very soon afterwards, an angel appeared to Abraham and gave a message from God, “O Abraham !! I was feeding that person for many years. You could not feed him for one day??”

Abraham got the message and ran after that person and brought him home, with many apologies and made him eat the meal in complete peace.

We have good examples of the good way in the life of such great men of God.

I always find that people assume that Islam is a religion of violence. Rather, it is a religion of peace. However, the misinterpretation is caused by militant Islam. Militant Islam is caused by passages within the Koran that warrant violence. The thing is, Muhammad dictated his life experiences. So, in this context, can we truly believe that these passages are correct? One might think that the writer chose to insert passages of his own accord by claiming Muhammad said them himself. Also, looking at history and modern-day, Muslims would rather level a religious tax, or jizya, rather than killing Christians or others of a different faith. That’s just my perspective though. What does everyone else believe?
One thing people forget about Islam is that it is a religion that ‘leaks’. It cannot help but ‘leak’ violence and disenchantment. To be a truly good Muslim, one must adhere to the strictest interpretation of the Koran and that puts a true believer at odds with western secularist societies and even in tension with the less stringent followers of the Koran…

I just own a paperback Qur’an (with a ton of bookmarks in it and markings) and I used an online Qur’an for everybody to check the text (took forever to link the passages too)… The online one is actually better because there is more than just one official translation shown there.

May the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.

In Him,
Janet
Janet,

there’s nothing to interpret and you’re right on track. Just take it as is and don’t let anyone excuse themselves out of your own judgement.

Remember this. The Quran is NON-CONTEXTUAL. As you would have read and know, these quranic terrorist teachings are spread ALL over the quran.

Non-contextual means 2 things. You can either say those terrorist dogmas are bounded by your context (depending on whatever context you wish to claim for yourself) or they are free for all (which means all muslims must practice terrorism).

Unfortunately for us non-muslims, we are not in the position to challenge their contextual claims which is the cause of these muslim terrorism. Some excuse these dogmas using contexts they claim for themselves, others take these dogmas as it is. KILL.

There is no need to spend too much time on these barbaric teachings whether or not they are in context since we are not muslims. We just have to deal with each one AS THEY TURN TERRORIST.

Remember, to catch a serpent, you have to catch its head, and what we’re doing is really just meddling with its wiggling body. ONLY God can pin its head down.

I also think the people who believe in the Quran do not understand what it means that the writings have no context…

And some how their understanding of Christ and His mission is the correct one, even though they have literally lived outside Judeo Christian culture.

It is true that Islam is a religion of Peace. But nowadays, the Muslims are not peaceful. It is not the religion but the followers of the religion have misunderstood Islam. The christians are helping them by saying that Islam is a violent religion.
islam has only been a religion of peace because islamic expansion by the sword was stopped. almost every muslim country today is muslim because it was conquered and forced over time to convert. When this expansion was stopped by military resistance and islamic in fighting. Islam began a period aof relative peace. Now with oil $ wahobism is being preached around the globe and it is NOT peaceful. they want to get back to the fundamentals and follow the example of their prophet. This is not to say that there are not many muslims who resist this ideology. but they are often afraid to speak up.

And…they claim southern Europe to be theirs by virtue of the short time the Muslims were a significant minority on the Iberian peninsula. Their intent is to reclaim it for Islam.

Yes, I certainly do see these.
It is not only a Catholic phenomenon to be actually turned away from the thought of being a slave of God.
The verses that you quoted are wonderful and they show that you started looking in the right place to begin with. Being a slave of God requires obedience to Him and as Christians we are not only made His children by Him, but we are first and foremost bought by Him with a price, His own and thereby His slaves.
While being His slave might sound rather strange, the benefits are great. We do not have to worry about a lot of things. All we have to worry about is being obedient to Him in all things and that is a day-to-day task. I see myself failing, not being loving when I should be, getting upset about small things, not reading my Bible often enough, etc.
The thing is that I do not know what will be next. God does not give us a roadmap and tells us to go. He is always at work around us and we are invited to join Him in that.
Starting with the small things of holding the door for someone or talking about Him in a casual conversation to going on mission trips. Most of all our highest desire should be to please Him in everything that we do. That is to love the Lord with all our heart mind and soul and to love our neighbor as ourselves. If pleasing Him and giving Him the glory in literally everything is our strongest desire and if we keep reminding ourselves, then there is no question as to whether or not we will be good and faithful slaves, because we will.
With the attitude of the slave to please the master in everything, we will not run in vain. With this attitude we will hold nothing back from Him because it already is His.
I do not have anything. I am a slave. All that I have is given to me by the Lord through His mercy and His forbearing. Should I loose everything tomorrow it would not be a loss to me because I did not own it in the first place and if God should decide to take anything away from me to fulfill a purpose He wants to fulfill then so be it. All I have is only through Him. Because of Him my husband can go to work. Because of Him my husband came home from Iraq unharmed. Because of Him we found a house, friends and a nice little church in the area. I am not saying that this is easy… It’s through His will that we can please Him at all.

The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.

In Him,
Janet
Peace be with you Janet; I understand the servant translated from slave. I as a Catholic have no problem with slave as long as it is used in the correct context of bible and Sacred Tradition from the Apostles. The Popes and Catholic religious use this terminology as servants in the vineyard of God our Father.

The Catholic teaching does not conflict with this scripture as I have just described between slave and Child of God. How do you interpret this scripture below?

Galatians.4:5-7 to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. As proof that you are children, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” ** So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.) member of Christ and coheir with him,**

I would disagree with you. May I remind you that Islam is the only religion which talks about Jesus in a Good way. You tell me any other religion in the world, say Hinduism, or Judaism or Budhism or any other religion which even believes in any good thing of Jesus?? Add to those the Atheists too. You will have the whole lot, all too many who disbelive in Jesus. In fact the whole word (except Muslimsa nd christians) disbelieve in Jesus. Only Muslims are with you, partially. Please thinkover and tell me who is with you???
.
this is worse than the atheist positions and it is frightening that anyone would say this, The most important part in believing in Him is What He did at the cross! He paid a horrible price and muslims tell people they should believe in Jesus but reject the cross!

:rotfl::rotfl: I bet the violent muslims beleive they are the “gold standard” also , and the Westboros for that matter.
