If one has provided originals and recent copies, would there be any need to resubmit ‘updated copies’? I do not understand this request and it seems frivolous. It took almost a year to get the copies and then the originals showed up. I cant believe they are asking for this again!

I am not sure what you are asking, but when I was going through the radical sanation process, I needed to have a a copy of mine and my husband’s sacramental records that could not be more than 6 months old.

Maybe instead of coming here and asking, you should be asking the people who are helping you, there is obviously a reason.

If this is regarding marriage, the priest who will be witnessing the marriage will want proof that a sacramental marriage has not already occurred.

As there is generally a six-month planning period before wedding, a copy of the sacramental records no older than six-months would be strong evidence no intervening marriage occurred. A potential spouse that has will only present older copies could be concealing a recent attempt at marriage to someone else.

I do not understand what you mean by “originals” and “copies”.

What you need regarding sacraments is neither originals nor copies.

What you need is a recently issued (within the last six months, typically) certificate (sometimes it is a certificate and sometimes it is a letter) listing the sacraments received and all notations (such as decree of nullity, religious profession, etc) with the parish seal affixed.

It depends upon the reason they are requesting records. Is this for Confirmation or Marriage? For any marriage, they will need a recently updated official copy of the Birth Certificate with notations. This is to show that there have been no previous marriages in the Church. Some parishes want married people to be confirmed. On the back of the official copy notations will be made from the record. All sacramental notices are sent back to the parish of baptism to be recorded in that book.
