*Thought we could post thoughtful prayers for Lent, to help us stay on track with our penance for the season, and to support others here as well. I found a terrific Catholic website this morning, that has the entire season, each day having a special prayer, which I’ll post here, daily. God bless, and may everyone’s Lent be holy and reflective. :gopray:

The Second Week of Lent
Tuesday

God in heaven and in my life,
guide me and protect me.
I so often believe I can save myself
and I always end in failure.
Lead me with your love away from harm
and guide me on the right path.
May your Spirit inspire the Church
and make us an instrument of your love
and guidance.
Thank you for your care for me

this is a beautiful prayer. May God guide us, guard us, and make His unending love and peace fill us. May we turn away from selfishness and unwanten behavior. May we do good for one another and may we live in peace together as God has told us to do.

In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

***The Second Week of Lent
Wednesday

God of Love,
through this Lenten journey,
purify my desires to serve you.
Free me from any temptations to judge others,
to place myself above others.
Please let me surrender even my impatience
with others,
that with your love and your grace,
I might be less and less absorbed with myself,
and more and more full of the desire
to follow you, in laying down my life
according to your example. ***

That we all have a wonderful Easter and are good and loving toward one another.

A prayer of St. Ambrose.

Mindful then, O Lord,
of Thy worshipful Passion,
I approach Thine Altar,
sinner though I am,
to join in the offering unto Thee
that Sacrifice which Thou hast instituted and commanded
to be offered in remembrance of Thee for our well-being.
Receive it, I beseech Thee,
O God most High,
for Thy holy Church,
and for the people whom Thou hast purchased with Thine own Blood.
Let not, through my unworthiness,
the price of their salvation be wasted,
whose saving Victim and Redemption Thou didst Thyself vouchsafe to be.
Also behold in pity, O Lord,
the sorrows of Thy people,
which I bring before Thee;
the perils of Thy servants;
the sorrowful sighing of prisoners;
the miseries of widows and orphans,
and all that are desolate and bereaved;
the necessities of strangers and travellers;
the helplessness and sadness of the weak and sickly;
the depressions of the languishing;
the weakness of the aged and of children;
the trials and aspirations of young men;
and the vows of virgins.

Amen.

*That is a beautiful prayer, too, mary. I really like this website I found with prayers, and I also picked up a book that gives a penance for the day, as well. Today, we should do something for someone out of love.

Keep the Lent prayers coming…I’m hoping to see this thread filled with inspiring new prayers by the end of the season. ❤️*

***The Second Week of Lent
Thursday

Loving God,
I hear your invitation, “Come back to me”
and I am filled with such a longing to return to you.
Show me the way to return.
Lead me this day in good works I do in your name
and send your Spirit to guide me and strengthen my faith.
I ask only to feel your love in my life today.***

A PRAYER FOR LENT

O gracious Master,
infuse in our hearts
the spotless light of Your Divine Wisdom
and open the eyes of our mind
that we may understand the teachings of Your Gospel.
Instill in us also the fear of Your blessed commandments,
so that having curbed all carnal desires,
we may lead a spiritual life,
both thinking and doing everything to please You.
For You, O Christ, our God,
are the enlightenment of our souls and bodies;
and to You we render glory,
together with Your eternal Father,
and with Your all holy,
life-creating Spirit,
now and ever, and forever.

Amen.

*The Second Week of Lent
Friday

Loving God, Caring parent,
I am a child who so often turns my back
on your love.
Please accept my small acts of sorrow today
and help to release me from the self-absorption
that closes my heart to you.
As I journey through Lent,
let me remember the feast you have prepared for me
in the resurrection
and let me be filled with thanks to you.*

DAILY LENTEN PRAYER

Today Lord I choose life,
I choose your love and the challenge to live it and share it,
I choose hope, even in moments of darkness,
I choose faith, accepting you as Lord and God,
I choose to let go of some part of my burdens,
day by day handing them over to you,
I choose to take hold of your strength and power ever more deeply in my life.
May this truly be for me a time of new life, of change, challenge and growth.
May I come to Easter with a heart open to dying with you
and rising to your new life, day by day.

Amen.

*The Second Week of Lent
Saturday

God of infinite love,
you shower me with limitless gifts in my life.
In my every thought and action today
guide me to the bright and loving light of your kingdom.
Help me to be aware of
the many ways you allow me
to share in your life so intimately today.
Thank you for the gifts you have placed in my life.
Let me be grateful every moment of this day.*

*I wanted to let you know…I plan to print these prayer requests out in this Lent thread, and bring them to the Easter vigil mass where we (my parish) burns the prayers in a community fire, and the mass is offered for the prayer intentions. It’s really a beautiful thing! We started attending this parish last Lent, and they did this, and they announced they will be doing this again this year…so, I thought it would be a great thing to take these prayer intentions in here, and offer them for the vigil fire.

God bless…and may your Lent be both reflective and a time for you to grow in holiness. ❤️*

PRAYER OF SAINT EPHREM OF SYRIA
Feast on June 9 th.
Making a prostration

O LORD, Master of my life,
grant that I may not be infected
with the spirit of slothfulness and inquisitiveness,
with the spirit of ambition and vain talking.

Making a prostration

Grant instead to me, your servant,
the spirit of purity and of humility,
the spirit of patience and neighborly love.

Making a prostration

O Lord and King,
grant me the grace of being aware of my sins
and of not thinking evil of those of my brethren.

For you are blessed,
now and ever,
and forever.

Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, King of Kings,
You have power over life and death.
You know what is secret and hidden,
and neither our thoughts nor our feelings
are concealed from You.
Cure me of duplicity;
I have done evil before You.

Now my life declines from day to day
and my sins increase. O Lord,
God of souls and bodies,
You know the extreme frailty
of my soul and my flesh.
Grant me strength in my weakness, O Lord,
and sustain me in my misery.

Give me a grateful soul
that I may never cease to recall Your benefits,
O Lord most bountiful.
Be not mindful of my many sins,
but forgive me all my misdeeds.

O Lord, disdain not my prayer,
the prayer of a wretched sinner;
sustain me with Your grace until the end,
that it may protect me as in the past.
It is Your grace which has taught me wisdom;
blessed are they who follow her ways,
for they shall receive the crown of glory.

In spite of my unworthiness,
I praise You and I glorify You, O Lord,
for Your mercy to me is without limit.
You have been my help and my protection.
May the name of Your majesty be praised forever.
To you, our God, be glory.

Amen.

Lenten Prayer

Let us pray to the Father, and ask him to form a new heart within us.
God of all compassion, Father of all goodness, to heal the wounds
our sins and selfishness bring upon us you bid us turn to fasting,
prayer and sharing with our brothers and sisters.
We acknowledge our sinfulness, our guilt is ever before us:
when our weakness causes discouragement, let your compassion
fill us with hope and lead us through a lent of repentance
to the beauty of Easter joy.

Amen.

**PRAYER OF HOPE

We do not know what will become of us. We make many choices in life. We think of ourselves as free, but every choice limits freedom. We do not have the perspective of eternity; our every choice is made within the narrow limits of earthly existence. And so we make our way through life nearly blind, knowing little of what effect our choices will have on our future.
But God did not leave us alone in this world. He loved us so much that he sent his own beloved Son to be our light and our hope. He revealed to us that we are God’s children, that our life is in his hands, and that he will lead us to a fulfillment far greater than anything we could attain for ourselves. We need only trust him and follow his will.
Lord God our Father, you created us for a purpose beyond our understanding. We cannot discern this purpose by our own powers, but you revealed it to the world by the death and resurrection of your Son. He revealed to us that we are your children, and that you created us to dwell with you in love for all eternity. He overcame sin and death to reconcile us with you. Free us from every form of bondage that separates us from you and purify us by the fire of your love. Guide us by the light of your truth, and lead us to the eternal life you have prepared for us. Amen.**
