Poetically, you could say that every man you let down without ridicule or treating him like a creep is one jerk less on the planet. It also makes you consistently a better person with every such small step, which affects your future marriage and family.
I will definitively follow your advice.
You are absolutely right, but unfortunately many teenage and college girls do not see this. They see men as if they do not have the right to have feelings, and expect them to take any rejection “as a man.”
I think this should be talked about and taught at home; it is the parents’ responsibility to do their best to form good men and women.
Blessings.

Yea…I was insulted by the “lowering standards by being on a dating site”.

In my opinion, its a higher standard
. I have a profile and filter of people before we even start talking. I know where they stand on important faith issues and whether I should invest time.

It’s a tool- no different than if you met at a coffee shop-- a Catholic site is even better than meeting by chance at church, because you don’t know how catholic someone is there, but if you’ve got a profile with important questions answered, you do.
If in your opinion it’s a higher standard, then why were offended by what she said, which is her own opinion; and she was talking about herself?

Just because I hold an opinion that I consider new technology allowing for new means of introductions an improvement does not mean that I look down my nose on what existed before it, and clearly is the way society has functioned for awhile (and still does).

The comment “I will not lower my standards” is pretty judgemental. I responded with the facts of the positives to shed light on it not being a lowering of standards.

But I suspect you know this anyway.

This is a diversion from the substance of the discussion.

I would focus on meeting people in person around shared interests. Get involved in activities that you are passionate about, with vibrant church groups for young adults, with your local universities, and you’ll find some excellent men.
This might be helpful: a super dating site specifically for Catholics that not only allows you to join free (so that you can have a good look around before committing yourself) but you can also down load a free eBook on love and marriage written by Dietrich von Hildebrand, a man described by Pope Pius XII as by one of the greatest Catholic philosophers of the twentieth century. Check it out for yourself www.cathud.com
