In light of what Leewis said: yeah, ghost profiles are a problem. They artificially inflate the number of registered people. If you want to dabble with “online dating” (quotation marks since I don’t consider it dating, as I may have explained above), you need to keep in mind that there are those ghost profiles. Learn to identify them and avoid setting your hopes high.

However, this is not hopeless. Use your intelligence to find clues. Pictures from 2009 (uploaded rather than taken)? Hint. Last activity was in 2010? Hint. Profile contains references to current events from months or years ago? Hint. Profile is not even filled in properly? Hint. Don’t set your hopes high on receiving a reply.

Another category of profiles is pretty picture but no other information. I skip those too.

(For the record, in realife too you have attractive strangers who aren’t exactly available or interested in meeting people.)

Beware
I was with CM site eight months ago. I still get messages from them stating that other member want to talk to me. Another site, which I did not sign up to also are sending email-stating member are sending me messages too. It bothers me to no end that these sites are displaying my profile to their members. Knowing I left their sites long ago. Not knowing that I no longer a member to these sites the members are sending messages to a ghost. It is sad and wrong that the dating sites are deceiving their members to gain more members. . I spam both of these sites and just a little while ago I received more messages from them. I informed both sites that their site go right to my spam folder. As you can see the dating sites automatically send these messages out once or twice a month.

Reread your contract.
The point I am trying to make is that the same thing will happen to you. It is a way the site entices new members and more money.
I open my spam folder this morning. Guess what? More messages, alto I left these sites long ago.

Now you know why I do not want my photo and any more information about me on the internet. If you would like to share your email that.
Leewis 😦
You have to actually remove your profile. I don’t understand what is the problem with that?

You found yourself a shesquire at the office?
I met a nice gal over the summer… it took a few months, but I think we both realized it was just a very nice platonic connection. So no, still looking here…

So anything particularly wrong with CatholicMatch?

Thanks everyone for your (name removed by moderator)ut. It was really helpful, and insightful. I did end up making an account, but after a few days, I don’t think it’s for me. It just felt odd to me. I’m not saying that the website is bad, or that people who use online dating are bad, but it just felt like online shopping to me. Online shopping for humans, that is LOL. I just found it odd that you HAD to put in all this personal information, so whats the point of talking to that person if you know everything about them?
Maybe if I don’t meet the right girl in the next decade, I will try using this tool again, but for now I am going to have some fun, and hope that I run into her elsewhere!😃

+1

It may take long to realise there’s no point dating people one knows one wouldn’t marry. It may take longer to realise that those who aren’t worth keeping as friends aren’t worth dating.
I don’t necessarily agree with the first bit, but definitely second the second bit, from experience.

And why don’t you necessarily agree that there’s no point dating someone one knows one wouldn’t marry? Dating is for marriage discernment, not for fun! (Nothing wrong having fun on dates but once you know it won’t end in marriage, especially because you wouldn’t like it to, it’s time to move on.)
