Apparently, there is nothing wrong with online Eucharistic adoration. In fact, I had e-mailed the UCCB under the Divine Worship Category, and this is the response I got:

Thank you for your email. I’m not sure what you mean by whether it’s “valid” to participate in adoration via the internet. The question of validity would pertain to whether the actual rite of exposition and adoration is being enacted appropriately. There is no prohibition that I’m aware of against viewing adoration via a webcam. I suppose it would be one way to hear scripture proclaimed and hymns sung and that could certainly be a time of grace. It would seem that viewing the Blessed Sacrament via a webcam would be similar to looking at a picture of the Blessed Sacrament–and that can certainly evoke piety and faith in a believer.

I sincerely believe that there is no substantial difference between online Eucharistic adoration and proximal adoration in a chapel and modern technology has made this possible. Maybe it’s Our Lord’s way of trying to combat the evil so prevalent on the internet via pornography? I certainly wouldn’t dissuade anyone from proximal adoration in a church/chapel but graces are available online as well…depending upon the faith of the person in question.

You actually got a reply from the USCCB? That’s remarkable. I have contacted them at least three times on separate occasions where I needed important information and heard nothing but stony silence. Well, kudos to their reply. It is exactly correct - viewing the Blessed Sacrament online is just like looking at its picture in a magazine or a book. It is no more than that, of course. The fullness of grace comes from being physically present in prayer and Benediction as human beings are meant to be.

I don’t see why God wouldn’t forgive you for confessing your sins to a priest over the phone as long as you have a firm purpose of amendment to avoid those sins and stop sinning…I think God looks at the heart of the person… all the rest is a matter of over-scrupulosity if you ask me…I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to go to confession to have your sins forgiven anyway and I think ultimately, we’ll only be forgiven if we forgive others…
God reads the heart. God forgives. Atonement follows repentance. Your comment is silent on Atonement.
