I am an extremely shy person when it comes to relationships, so for the longest part of my life i have resorted to meeting and interacting with people online.

Needless to say this has led me many times to fall for the mortal sin of lust and have since wanted to stop (Today i went to confession exactly for the same reason), resolved not to fall for it again.

Needless to say, this very same day when i logged to the portal of this online chat (in which i frequent some friends) only to be chatted by a relatively new gal friend who would flirt with me with tame “emoting” ( A description of an action using text), using hugs, winks, kisses etc, which i reciprocated half heartedly as i didn’t know if this would be falling again for the sin of lust. I clearly liked the attention but kept it to tame emoting more often than not afraid that this would affet my state of grace…

I know this whole thing may be bizarre and that’s exactly why i wish to cut completely with this sort of behavior… but since i am also abit afflicted by scrupulosity i don’t know if i will need to confess this… It would be a shame having already received grace and potentially losing it the very same day…

Thank you in advance.

I think when one commits to another, the need to flirt goes away. 🙂

Flirting is always sinful. The only licit way for a Catholic man to secure a spouse is by submitting a 5000 word essay, in Latin, to the Congregation for the Evaluation of Marital Unions (CEMU) in Rome, explaining exactly why he would make a worthy Catholic husband. Those men whose essays are accepted by the Congregation may eventually be assigned a wife, if a suitable match can be found by the Council of Stern Women Religious for the Promotion of Modest Catholic Wives (the good old CSWRPMCW). I myself was doomed to lifelong singleness due to a noun declension error…damned by grammar…

Seriously though, you may have to elaborate a bit more as to your definition of flirting and your “end game” intent here. I don’t know how you could possibly enter a dating relationship without some degree of flirting. Is this flirting explicitly sexual in nature? Are you looking for a woman who is “marriage material” to date…or just looking to have “fun” online?

Very well written twf!!! That made my day! (Only “you” should be “he” in the third line.)😉

Flirting is not a sin, unless you are married. Online flirting is not really flirting unless you are married. My friend, it is time to meet people of the opposite in person. I was an extremely shy person, but that somehow changed when I saw the most beautiful girl across a crowded room, and just had to know who she was, married now for years more than I would like to admit, only that it was before the internet, and I could not text her.

A lot of flirting is really just banter and in jokes rather than because you are actively pursuing the other person anyway.

I would say i wasn’t pursuing anything at the moment this happened. I just found it entertaining, felt nice to have attention and give it back as well. Then i felt conflicted since i knew this could end up badly again for me as in possibly messages with lewd overtures and that’s when i started backing a bit.

To be honest i don’t think “dating online” is a healthy way of starting a serious relationship. Distance and other factors play so much against it…

But yeah what i am more concerned right now is if i should go to confession again.

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut Darryl. I will definetly leave this form of dating.
I sort of know in my heart what’s right, i am just a bit bummed by the fact that i MAY need to confess again for something related to what was keeping me from grace in the first place.

I tried to avoid anything that could lead to obscene or more suggestive conversation. It just felt nice to have someone try to approach you and such. Nevertheless at one point i felt it may be wrong and after a while i started to feel compelled to do more. That’s when i felt heavily conflicted and just called it a night.

I feel even worst because that very same sunday morning i went to confession about something simmilar so i am a bit dissapointed at myself for falling (or almost falling) for it again in record time. Makes me sad

Unless suggestive language was involved I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Offtopic but, amazing how you can keep your faith even in a household that is not so friendly towards catholicism!

We mainly roleplay as in “Emoting” our actions. i know it sounds weird and lately i think it is unwise due to what it can lead me to do or think. But yeah no suggestive language. Just signs of appreciation and closeness ( Kisses, hugs etc) Which like i said felt good but made me conflicted about the end and wiseness of the act… and made me felt even worst since i had just walked out of the confessional booth hour ago

She hasn’t just kept her faith, she has come to her faith. Her parents are baptists and she was raised one.

I think the young people here are fantastic.

I think the wise thing here is to just ignore that kind of exchanges. I mean they may or may not lead to something meaningful… I only know that i liked it but where may it lead?

Thanks for your insight!

Hehe. Its amazing when i get to meet people who chose to believe and convert on their own conviction.

I was traditionally catholic but was never convinced until a seried of events that served to push me into the truth that is God and its wife the church… Almost supernatural

Go visit a nursing home.
You will find real people craving real affection, and the best part is: they could not care less how articulate or powerful or shy you are.
Try it, it might change your life.

I seriously doubt hugs and kisses on a chat is sinful. if sexuall explicit things were said then maybe.
