I am currently taking graduate theology courses at a seminary but due to financial and time restrictions am finding this hard to complete. I am looking to study theology and was hoping that there were some free formation programs available somewhere on the net or (not as desirable) at a low discounted price. Ideally, I would like to be able to listen to some lectures and do some follow up readings, without having to do essays, exams and pay high tuition associated with traditional courses – as such, ruling out distance learning institutions like FUS. I know in the past there has been a thread that listed various sites and podcasts that discussed the faith, albeit in a more apologetic tone. I was hoping there was something similar for dogmatic and systematic theology – Mariology, sacramental theology, ecclesiology, moral theology, Christology, etc. I know that there is a great interest in my area for such a formation program. Many lay people are eager to study the faith more in depth but cannot due to similar limitations as myself.

Check out www.theologyphoenix.com. 3rd quarter classes: January 24 - March 1.

May not meet your needs, but then again perhaps it will. It’s worth a look. They’ve already had some super classes since this program launched. Don’t know the cost.

I’m sorry to hear about your situation. I know it can be hard to balance life, school, work, finances, etc. It gets overwhelming from time to time, and a lot of people just give up. Kudos to you for being determined to continue your education Online Degree’s career guides offers information for theology courses as well as others. Don’t give up on your education - investing in yourself and your future is and will continue to be one of the best decisions you have ever made.

Hi Future,

If your diocese is a Catholic Distance University (CDU) partner, the seminars are quite affordable. If they are not a partner, you might inquire to see if they would consider becoming a partner - it is not hard for the diocese, and it is a great way for a diocese to make a solid education available to more of the laity.
