I was wondering, does the Catholic Church have the only true authority to do an exorcism? I thought we did, but I just wanted to be sure. I am starting to read Fr. Gabriele Amorth’s book and I just wanted to be sure.
Peace

Remember in the Gospel when people were casting out demons in Jesus’ name, but who were not of their flock specfically? What did Jesus say when the Apostles asked if they should be stopped?

John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.” Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us.

Thanks.
I read a part of his book today, and I think he said something similiar to this, but “laypeople” can say a prayer or blessing for deliverance, but that only a priest can execute a full exorcism. I am still a little confused, so I poke around some more and then when I speak to our Priest I’ll see what he says, as well.
I am so glad you brought that scripture up, because I knew something was telling me that everybody could do or say something when confronted with the enemy.
I tell you, I never would have read something like this book, but I am quite surprised with the content and how it is affecting me so far. If anything, my experience is that it is causing me to truly look at my interior spiritual life and where I could definatley sacrifice more and it really makes you want to experience the gifts of the sacraments and sacramentals as much as possible. Not out of fear necessarily, but to equip yourself with all the things the Lord offers us to draw closer to Him? Does that make sense? Very good book so far and again thank you for the replies.
