…until the new translation of the 3rd Roman Missal goes into effect. I counted only 26 more Sundays of the old translation left. I still cannot believe that we are this close. Does anybody have any stories they would like to share on how things are going in their parish or diocese?
 
I’m looking forward to the First Sunday of Advent, too! Wish I could get the new missal already… Was trying to figure out which company to get mine from when they become available…
 
I’m new to the Catholic church, is there something I can read to educate me about the upcoming changes? I’ve heard rumblings but don’t know why, exactly. Is the verbage changing? Thanks!
 
What’s the word from the missalette companies? Are they ready to print out the new translation in the Advent/Christmastime missalettes? Has anyone asked?
 
Strangely, in England & Wales, our bishops’ conference announced the date for the third edition of the missal later than USCCB yet we’re starting to use it sooner, in a way. From Septmber 2011 we’ll be using the new Order of Mass but with the old propers. Then from 27th November (1st Sunday in Advent) we’ll start using the new propers.
 
So far not a word in our parish, town or diocese that I have noticed. And, sadly, as none of our local churches seem to bother following the current texts I hardly think one will notice anything after the new ones come out. Nice in theory though.

Every time I read posts like yours, cothrige, I get madder and madder. Not at you, cothrige, or other posters. I get mad at those clergy and “liturgists” who seem to think they have the right to alter the liturgy and consequently to deny the faithful of their parishes of their right to proper liturgy.

I consider myself blessed to live in a conservative parish where our faithful priest gets it right.
 
Our pastor, he’s been here about a year, is gradually restoring some of the traditional things in our parish. The baptismal font has been moved to an area at the rear of the church as it traditionally was. In preparing the area, they found the original cornerstone of the church dated A.D. 1874. We had a May Crowning last Sunday with all the traditional hymns to Mary. Almost brought tears to my eyes. The statues in the Church were covered with purple draping during the last few weeks of Lent. And some Latin hymns are beginning to appear from Sunday to Sunday.
 
I’ve seen a few articles in parish bulletins in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, but not much else. No sermons on the new translation. No parish workshops. Otherwise, it seems like business as usual. Seems like if they do implement on time, it’s going to be too much of a shock and people will definitely complain. Kind of like a self fulfilling prophecy.

Most parishes are waiting until the fall. No use introducing the texts so early since they will not be using them until the end of Nov. Our diocese has been having workshops for priests, musicians, liturgy committees and other parish professionals. I did a few in the parish for EMHCs, lectors, choir members and catechists. I did one for the general population and didn’t get a lot of people, so I will wait until the fall. The missals and missalettes won’t be shipped until Oct. 1 so that is when we are preparing our workshops in the parish. We might begin to introduce before Mass some of the new Mass settings just so people get used to it when they actually have to use them. Thank goodness they don’t have to sing the Gloria until Christmas because that is a BIG change, especially when sung.
