The Catechism of the Catholic Church is posted online in its entirety by the Vatican:I should have invested in a catechism by now.![]()

The Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church is also available online:
vatican.va/archive/compendium_ccc/documents/archive_2005_compendium-ccc_en.html
It is a particularly good resource because it treats the absolute essentials in a very basic manner, and cites the pertinent references in the Catechism.
As for the Catechism itself, don’t neglect to read the footnotes. Many of them are posted online by the Vatican, as well. It is easiest to use a search engine to look for them directly, rather than searching with the Vatican search engine. You’re less likely to turn up recent documents that refer to them, and more likely to turn up the original document itself.
Having said that, the Catechism covers general principles, not particular situations like this. In that case, well…I’d ask somebody here, starting with a search of whether the question has been covered by the apologists or in a piece published in the library. Catholic Answers’ experts are an even better resource than these forums. If you can’t find the answer from them, by the time you’ve looked, you’ll be educated for the discussion you get started on one of the forums.
