I’m asking this in L&S since it directly relates to saced music. If it needs to be moved, mods, do what you will…

Does anyone know if there is a free/open source alternative to adobe acrobat? I specifically need to add a few lines of text to a PDF created by another tool. I’m needing to add psalm verses to PDFs created by this tool (an example of an output of this tool is attached).

I need to extend this PDF into a full paper size, then add verse below to be sung to the tone. Any ideas for free software?

Foxit (search Google for “Foxit Software” or “Foxit Reader”: no relation to Firefox) is not open-source, but it is free and much more secure than Acrobat. I’m not sure if that’s helpful, but, like Apple, I stay away from Adobe products whenever possible. If you run Linux or Cygwin on Windows you can use PDFedit, which is open source.

I use PDF-XChange-Viewer. It isn’t opensource, but it is free. It does have a typewriter tool so I know you can add text at the bottom. I’m not sure about making it a whole page.

The other option is Libre/OpenOffice. You can open pdfs into there and it converts things into pics and text boxes, so editing should be pretty easy.

This is awesome! I’ll have to check out these tools. I use that gregorio tool frequently as well.

Ok, I did some playing around with your file. The bad news is it doesn’t seem to import into Libre/OpenOffice very well, it loses a bunch of formatting, so I don’t think that is any good.

The good news is if you open it in pdf x-change viewer, there is a snapshot tool which allows you to turn it into a picture which you can then paste into whatever office program you use. Not the simplest solution, but it seems to work well.

Or just use Foxit or PDFedit (the latter on Linux or Cygwin), and edit it as a .pdf!

But is foxit free? A link would be great if it is. I can’t find a free editor from foxit anywhere.
