Opening and closing mass with same hymn

I don’t remember ever witnessing this before, but today at mass we opened and closed with the same hymn. Verses 1&2 were used at the opening, verses 3&4 for the closing. I’m curious whether this is more common than I’ve noticed, or if it really is a bit strange.

Obviously some hymns wouldn’t serve well for both purposes, but the hymn in this case, I Know That My Redeemer Lives, seems versatile enough.

I’ve experienced that a lot at the Saturday anticipated Sunday Mass. There’s no choir so often the person leading the singing will pick a hymn with several verses and do just what you describe.
