A - They probably do have popes. Two, most likely. Since every Anglican clergyman/ woman seems to need to have a gay partner these days! :whacky:
 
Well, opinions are opinions, every one has one.

Would you be open-minded and read if there were ever something like “Is Patriarch Bartholomew Lutheran?”

What would be your instinctive reaction to that one?
 
I know it’s tempting to go for a ‘joke’ but you know, as Catholics we’ve had more than enough snide comments about ‘pervert priests’ --I don’t think that we need to stoop down and make the same type of comment. (I know the OP is Orthodox and the remark is made about Episcopalians/Anglicans but gee whiz, it’s not the whole Anglican communion that is on board with homosexual bishops etc. and certainly nowhere near the entire Anglican clergy that is gay.

Shouldn’t we hold ourselves to a higher standard? I mean, there are plenty of jokes out there that are funny and NOT mean-spirited and vulgar.

Here, this one is a favorite of mine. A Catholic priest and an Anglican priest were on their way to a seminar and their train was leaving at 4:30 p.m. “We have plenty of time for a bite at the pub” said the Anglican. My watch is an heirloom passed down from my great-grandfather. It’s always kept perfect time, and we have a whole hour, see?"

45 minutes later they strolled down to the railroad station. . .just in time to see the train they were supposed to take pull away and to hear the station clock chime the half hour . .

“How very vexatious!” stewed the Anglican. “Why, I had such faith in that watch!”

“Ah”. . .said the Catholic with a smile . .“But what is faith without good works?”
 
I don’t think this particular thread is deliberately contentious (not sure about other threads). It was the title of a podcast by Fr. Joseph Huneycutt who has a famous blog in the Orthodox blogosphere. Even then, the priest is not saying the Pope is actually an Anglican. Perhaps the OP could have made that a little bit clearer. Anyway, it’s a fairly short podcast and it’s a rather good one. I’d give it a listen. 🙂

Or perhaps the OP’s thread makes me do it. But then, I offer no excuse, no justification. I’m just sorry - my apology to the Anglicans. :o

That was an ignorant and unfounded post. It is surely a shameful thing when someone comes off the cuff with something as inaccurate as this.

While the Anglican Communion is rapidly circling the drain, this comment is uncalled for.
As an Anglican Priest, who is married with children I find this offensive, personally.

It would be like anti-catholics bring up past scandals and quipping about young boys and catholic priests. Both type of comments are beyond the pale.

Hopefully from this post to where my enters, you will have repented of this sin.

So…you post an inflamatory statement and then disappear? how brave.I am only a “so called Catholic” let me make this perfectly clear, Pope Benedict is the Vicar of Christ:signofcross: the anglican church was founded by a king who historically of questionable character:rolleyes: I hope and pray for one universal church founded by Jesus Christ.Seems like quite a few anglicans will join us, I am good with that.I think it is a shame we are so divided…so few people believe in God at all, and here we squabble:shrug:
 
there will be many Anglicans coming over and to think not is naive, so many will not tolerate the sin of practicing homosexuals being ordained…live with it.

I wish you were right about that. It would probably be good for them and encouraging to see Apostolic Western Christianity coming together in some way.

But I have a sinking feeling. It depends (I suppose) how one defines ‘many’.

Hey now, it is not entirely meeting its demise! As far as I can see, the Anglican communion seems to be doing okay. What are you talking about?

Ahem, while being gay is one thing… raping a child is something else, a criminal offense. The two cannot be compared!

It is not a sin to stand back and acknowledge that clergymen are doing something that the bible so boldly forbids!
 
The Episcopal church is one out of 39 provinces of Anglicanism. Do you still wish to stick your foot in your mouth about how much of Anglicanism tolerates homosexuality? You don’t know what you are talking about.

I had simular problems when I was still methodist. People here on these forums would be responding to my post saying “John Wesley this, John Wesley that!” …and I was like… listen mate, it has been a long time since John Wesley! Things change through time and not to mention the fact that there are too many denominations to list.
