Opinions Needed Regarding Priest's Comment

At my daughter’s parish on Easter the Pastor told the congregation that Easter was not about Christ, but it was about them.

I thought Easter was all about Christ. Yes His death on Good Friday saved us, but don’t we think of Christ on Easter and not ourselves. Without Good Friday there would be no Resurrection.

He has also told the children they may not receive Communion on the tongue, only in the hand.

Although the Pastor seems to have some other issues, my grandchildren attend the school and at least it appears getting a good foundation of what the Church teaches. My one grandaughter told her mother, who was playing a popular song that says Alleluia, that you can’t say Alleluia during lent, which I was very happy that she is learning and listening to what is taught in her religious class.

Either someone has misunderstood/misreported what was said, or the priest is misinforming them. :twocents:

Our focus should be on Christ in the Eucharist whether or not it is Easter or a regular sunday so yes i would have to say that Easter is about Jesus

Perhaps he meant that Jesus died FOR US, and rose FOR US, not to benefit Himself…

Easter is about the Resurrection of Christ.

Communion on the Tongue is up to the individual, not any Priest or even a Bishop.
To say either COTT or CITH is not permitted violates GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal) that all Priests and Bishops must follow.

he may have given the instruction because children had not yet been prepared to receive in the tongue so can’t comment there, either

I do remind catechumens and candidates that the action in the Vigil is all about them, in the sense of bringing them to Christ, who has died and risen for them, and that is why the entire Church worldwide, in heaven and on earth, welcomes them at this moment. Perhaps some instruction like that has only been partially heard or understood. But they need to understand that everything, readings, litany, intercessions, all the preparatory rites of Lent and the catechumenate, are “about them” in the sense of being designed specifically for their preparation, strengthening, instruction, formation, initiation and welcome.
