I wonder which rosary would be best to pray? Any opinions? The regular rosary from Dominic that we’re all familiar with or the lady of sorrows? Anyone tried both?

I have two. One is a blessed Pope Francis one. Olive wood with 20 decades. I like it because it can ride around in my pocket and seems pretty sturdy. Harder to pray because the beads are small and close together.

The other is a beautiful Our Lady of Lourdes, with some actual water from Lourdes in the center piece. The beads are dark blue glass, and the Corpus rests on the blue interior of the silver crucifix. Easy to pray in the dark or with your eyes closed. Not for travel at all, too bulky and I would be afraid to break it.

I tend to use the OLOL rosary when I am praying it before sleep, it is harder to lose my place with it if I doze off for a second.

Both of those options sound great. Also, as long as you say the Rosary with love it does not matter much which Rosary you choose and you can even use the 10 fingers of your hand as long as your heart is open.

I think the OP is asking about the difference between the Rosary and the Chaplet of Seven Sorrows. These are two entirely different prayers- not just different objects.

These are both private devotions, so- aside from specific indulgences associated with the rosary- one isn’t necessarily better than the other. I imagine there are indulgences associated with the chaplet of Seven Sorrows as well, but it is not nearly as popular a devotion and likely hasn’t been given as many indulgences. Still, if you really like the chaplet of Seven Sorrows, go ahead and pray it.

I see I guess it isn’t a rosary. I’ve seen it prayed with a rosary. There are different promises with it than the rosary.

I have a regular rosary that I use for the Rosary and also for the Chaplet of Mercy. I also have a Seven Sorrows Chaplet Rosary and I use both kinds.

Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort says in The Secret of the Rosary that Our Lady told Blessed Alan de la Roche that the Most Holy Rosary is the best form of prayer after the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, so it should be preferred to other devotionals in order to gain the most merit.
Our Lady one day revealed to Blessed Alan de la Roche that, after the holy sacrifice of the Mass, which is the first and most living memorial of our Lord’s passion, there was indeed no more excellent devotion or one of greater merit than that of the Rosary, which is like a second memorial and representation of the life and passion of Jesus Christ.

Only you and God can decide what is best for you to pray. This might change from day to day. Listen to your heart and may God be present to you there.
