Note from OP: Wow, I am impressed, especially with Trumphet pulling out some church fathers! I do agree that we seem a little weak on the “Catholic” side of it, but it’s very fun reading even a one-sided argument. And the neet thing is, in my opinion, is that many of us have had a little fun with this, but at the same time, there has been an impressive level of respect shown for the opposing viewpoint. I’m trying to decide what the next “Opposite Thread” will be (only it’ll be called a “Flip-Flop” thread next time). I’d like to think of something that even us Catholics can disagree on so that there is more back-and-forth, but at the same time, I want it to be a worthy topic. Hmmm. Well, I’ll think about it over the weekend.
 
It is an interesting idea, but the lack of two sides to the discussion is disappointing.

Perhaps the OP could consider taking a few volunteers who may actually be Catholic to discuss the Catholic perspective, to give that “side” a couple ringers. You could then have, as a general rule, different “ringers” for each topic, so everyone can participate.

Another idea I had, though I don’t know if it will be too complicated, would be for us to base it on the post number. Post number one and all odd numbered posts would argue, for instance, the Catholic side while all the even numbered posts would argue the Protestant perspective. Maybe that would be too confusing, though. ANOTHER idea I had was for all the “senior” forum members to take on the antagonist side while all “junior” and “regular” members defend the Catholic position. I have a hunch that I’m about to go from “regular” to “senior” (isn’t it around 200?), so people like me would get to act out a “conversion”. All I know is that it was interesting to watch myself, as I responded to “Catholic” posts, slowly take on the identity of a non-instrumental Church of Christ member. I didn’t know that was going to happen at first.
 
I kinda like the Junior, Regular, and Senior member delineation for which side.

BTW, I think the move from Regular to Senior is at 250 posts.

I agree. And I also think the rules should be posted at the beginning of each “Flip/Flop” thread. This opposite concept is excelent!
