I wanted to ask a question regarding the Knights of Columbus and Opus Dei. Can one be a member of both the Knights of Columbus and Opus Dei, whether as a supernumerary, numerary or cleric? I have been considering joining Opus Dei as a supernumerary for a while but I have been recently initiated into the Knights of Columbus. I am hoping this would not be a conflict of interest. One reason I have asked is because I never heard of anyone being a Knight and an Opus Dei member. I’ll greatly appreciate any feedback! God bless!

I know of no conflict from the KofC side of things.

The qualifications to join the Knights are to be a male, 18 years or older, and a practical Catholic. A practical Catholic is defined as one who “accepts the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspires to live in accord with the precepts of the Catholic Church, and is in good standing in the Catholic Church.” I do not imagine that any of these qualities would prohibit a man from involvement in Opus Dei?

I am pretty sure I am acquainted with a gentleman who is a member of both organizations – I shall drop him an email to verify and report back.

My friend confirms that he is both a 3rd Degree Knight and a Cooperator with the work, and he attests there is nothing to preclude membership.
