Question for you all…
Is Opus Dei a popular movement in Roman Catholicism? What is the opinion of most Catholics towards Opus Dei?
Honestly, I had only known about Opus Dei from the Dan Brown novels, but of course, as a Protestant Christian, I too rejected the falsehoods of those novels with regards to Christ and the Council of Nicea and the Gnostic writings and Mary Magdalene, and I could go on…
Anyway, there is a school in our area that has a relationship with Opus Dei… And I have been very impressed with the families at that school. I hope this doesn’t come across as disrespectful… But I think many Protestant Evangelicals have a negative stereo type of most Roman Catholics as people who don’t seem to take their faith seriously, and only go to mass to “check the box” thus it becomes very ritualistic and less meaningful. [By the way, I’m certain there are many people in Protestant Evangelical churches who do the same…] So with that stereotype in mind, I was very much impressed with the families who send their children to the Opus Dei school. They communicate in a passionate way with regards to their faith, and their relationship with the Lord, and how He is working in their lives… Honestly, when I talk with them about religious matters, I find it in many ways similar to talking with another Evangelical who is very passionate about their faith…
As a result of my positive exposure, I had even considered sending my children to the schools…
So how popular is Opus Dei within Roman Catholicism? Is it viewed positively?
God bless!
