Will your parish have OR and Morning Prayer on Good Friday and Holy Saturday?
If so, does the priest presiding vests in choir dress and stole or cope? Do you chant the psalms?
I can’t speak for the parish but the cathedral will be chanting Lauds on Holy Saturday morning. Our schola is providing the music. We will do the hymn and antiphon in Latin, but the psalmody will be chanted in French on Gregorian tones. The Gospel Canticle will be chanted all in Latin however.
The hymn bothers me a bit. In the ancient tradition prior to Vatican II, the opening verse, hymn, Gloria Patri at the end of the psalms and the closing verse are all omitted for the Triduum. While the current Liturgy of the hours has not retained this tradition, the current monastic versions of the Liturgy of the Hours have retained it.
I guess if you strip out the opening and closing verses, hymn and doxologies Lauds and Vespers in the LOTH would be very short indeed and hardly worth the effort for me to drive the hour to the cathedral at 5:30 am to sing with the schola. Monastic Lauds is of course quite a bit longer, with 4 psalms and an OT canticle instead of 2 psalms and OT canticle in the LOTH.
Usually on Holy Saturday, Lauds is presided by the archbishop, with the priest who is rector of the cathedral and at least one deacon, and all are vested accordingly.
