I have no idea who Oral Roberts is.

What was his ministry?

That’s sad he died, but he did have a long life. I hope he used his time here on earth well.

Was he a Christian, a member of the Church and receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist?

On behalf of Christ, did Oral feed the hungry? Did he clothe the naked? Did he give drink to the thirsty?

Was he able to confess to a priest & did he receive Holy Unction soon before his death so that he could die in peace ready for his journey into eternity?

I hope so!
While I am not a big fan of Wikipedia, it would be easier to read that than it would be for me to try and explain him.

I remember when I was about 5 years old (in the mid 1950’s), the television was on in the living room. Mother was in the kitchen getting dinner so looking back I suspect something else had been on and she just hadn’t turned it off or changed the channel. Anyway, I was standing there in the living room and Oral Roberts was on TV and he was saying that if you touched the screen of your TV while he prayed he would heal you. I remember thinking at the time that was just silly.

To the best of my recollection, that was the only time in my life that I ever saw him on TV.
O brother, so it sounds like he’s one of those we’ve been warned about in the Bible like in:

Matthew 7 " 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Matthew 25 41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will answer Him,[d] saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

What a shame! What a wasted of 91 years of life.

I sure hope that before he died he repented. **Jesus is eager to have Mercy on all those who repent of their sins. **

Thanks. I read a bit and it sounds like he was deceived by a demon into believing he was God and he spend his life obeying that demon.

Poor misguided soul. I will pray for him.

Jesus loves everyone and wants to show His Mercy on all who ask for it.

My Father said if you can not say some thing good about a person then do not say any thing

I agree Bill.

I do believe that on some level he was a spirit filled individual. Which cannot be considered bad by any means.

I do applaud his effort at trying to start a hospital, even if it did fail.

One good thing that did come out of that hospital was that many physicians came to realize that prayer and faith are as much of the healing process as medical treatment is.

This is your response to my post:

To nut shell my above post, I said: **I hope that this man I’ve never heard of lived a life according to Christ’s teachings so that his death was a peaceful transition into eternity. **

I don’t see how that is saying something “not good” about him.

But if I have offended you, I do apologize.

I truly hope for Jesus to have Mercy on him and I even prayed for him.

Oral Was a anti cathloic and he past away as a Cathlkoic,He started His preaching in a tent bach in the 50;

I remember when Oral Roberts said that God told him that if he didn’t raise that money that God would call him home. It occurred to me at the time that if one was a true believer that would be no incentive to raise money.

You mean that God said “raise money or die?” What a sheep in wolve’s clothing.

Fox News, and I’m sure other news agencies are reporting that Evangelist Oral Roberts has died.

Did he, or his ministry have any effect on you?
negative. i always thought he was mentally ill. seeing a jesus that was 100 feet tall and all.😉

I never heard Oral Roberts make an anti-Catholic statement. Care to provide some sources otherwise it is a sin to make statements about a person that is not true. I will gladly admit I am wrong if evidence is presented

When I heard of his death I immediately prayed for his soul. He was an ardant anti-Catholic but he was loved by God nevertheless. I hope everyone will pray for him - and I hope many will pray for me when I die. To speak ill of anyone, to darken their name, even if what is being said is true, is to participate in calumny. I fear this thread will lead many to sin in this manner and would caution those tempted to do so to refrain.

May God bless you, Mr. Roberts, and I hope to see you in heaven.

Oral Roberts will be far from heaven. He is a sinner just like you and I. He will not enter the gates of Heaven unclean. He will have to wash his hands just like everyone else in purgatory, if he’s lucky. Remember Jesus said “Why do you say Lord, Lord, when you do not do as I command?” “But Lord, we have cast out demons in your name, we helped heal the sick”, and the Lord answered, “BE GONE FROM ME, FOR I DO NOT KNOW YOU.” Who do you think Christ was referring to? Wolves in sheeps clothing.

RomCath379:

I don’t think I said that he would go straight to heaven. I just said I hope to see him in heaven. If he makes it to Purgatory then I will see him in heaven someday. Be careful judging people. That is best left to God.

Who knows how long it takes to reach heaven from purgatory? Perhaps 3,000 years or more? Less?

Purgatory time is unimportant.

What is important is our prayers for any soul. Whether we think the are going to heaven, purgatory or hell.

The fact is, we don’t know where anyone’s soul is going. Including our own.

I still think he was a man of faith on some level. I still think that even though his theology may have been wrong, he tried to the best of his abilities. That is all anyone can do.

Ultimately, I would like to see him in heaven some day.

Just the thought of heading to purgatory is ultimately very important. I don’t want to go there. I wished I were going straight to heaven, but like anyone, I to am a sinner.
