As long as homeless people are fed and cared forā€¦let us not lose sight of that need ever.

OP please go on with that work of Godā€¦ Please!Thinking of you and praying for youā€¦
Amen. Living the Faith in charitable giving. After all, it is the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

By telling others you may be reminding them to do the same. Do you claim your charitable contributions when you file income tax. Thatā€™s telling somebody.
I do some charitable giving through a charge card so that I wonā€™t forget. Is it a problem that the Credit Card company will see that and I wonā€™t be blessed because someone knows? Of course not, because my motive wasnā€™t to show off but to remember to give.

By the way, I donā€™t consider it a problem to claim charitable giving on oneā€™s income tax. No way would I assume that people who do are automatically showing off- there may be other reasons for doing so, some quite valid.

Of course itā€™s permissible to do charity publicly or privately and to be rewarded for it or not. Itā€™s better not to be rewarded and still want to do it. If you are rewarded, accept it graciously and thank God for the reward, even if it isnā€™t all that and Heaven too.

Thank you for your testimony Churchman. Whether the praise here was your reward or not doesnā€™t change the goodness of the act. Whether or not you or the recipient like orange marmalade might, however. šŸ˜ƒ

Itā€™s permissible. Might even be a positive in some situations. The act is immoral, however, when the motivation is to attract praise or similar.

Always not good when praise is given and you can always avoid it and should. Be invisible. ā€œDo good and disappear.ā€

In my view, Churchman did a good thing and did us a favor by reminding us that sometimes charity consists in just such things as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Reminded me a bit of my grandmother. Years ago, there were ā€œhoboesā€ who came up from the train yards into the neighborhood. She always figured her house was ā€œmarkedā€ somehow, because they would pass up other houses to get to hers.

She was a good cook and a prodigious one. She made homemade bread as part of that. Many a time I saw her make two huge sandwiches for a hobo. One for now, one for later. She wrapped them in newspaper, stuck together with a toothpick. She would put absolutely everything in them; some meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese, whatever she had at hand. She was fond of gravy and would pour some gravy on the contents before putting on the top piece of bread.

She always required some kind of service ā€œto keep their prideā€ she said. She would have them sweep the porch or something. Then she would give them some money. She required that they eat the first sandwich there on the porch because, she said to me, ā€œyou canā€™t be sure theyā€™ll really eat. Sometimes they donā€™tā€. She knew, of course, that the money would go for cheap wine in all likelihood.

And all of that was at no small risk to her personal safety.

I never forgot her example. I thank Churchman for the reminder.

I saw it as a nice, healthy reminder.

Also, there is no word in English that rhymes with ā€œorange.ā€

This is why I do not take the tax benefit when donating to charities.

Last year, I gave a bunch of big boxes of snacks to a local homeless shelter, took about 45 minutes to unload and take it all inside, when I was getting ready to leave, the person asked me what the value was for the tax receipt, I told her I didnt need a tax receipt and that I was giving for the sake of giving, the way she looked at me, I dont think she had ever heard this before. lol
