Orchard Lake Schools (Michigan) celebrates 1,050 years of Polish Christianity

The national celebration was believed to be the only one in the U.S., and Orchard Lake Schools teamed with the Polish American Priests Association and the Catholic League to celebrate the event. The anniversary pulled in attendees from New York to Texas.

The event commemorated 1,050 years of Christianity in Poland, which began in 966 when Duke Mieszko I was baptized and he pledged to govern Poland as a Christian nation, according to JJ Przewozniak, curator of collections at the Polish Mission of Orchard Lake Schools . . .

“We’re a really cool place. We’re the … official shrine of the metro Detroit community of St. John Paul II,” Przewozniak said, highlighting that Orchard Lake Schools has a special connection to St. John Paul II, as he visited the campus twice.

“We have his kayak in the library. … If you want to go out on the lake, this is the kayak you should use, because it’s guaranteed to never sink,” Przewozniak joked.
