Well, first, know that I have been fascinated with the Dominicans for a very long time. Second, rest assured that this is not for the cape, nor the Habit itself. I have always wanted to preach. Although I am indeed attracted to the Franciscans, the Dominicans do more of what I want to do.I am confused.
Just a little over a month ago, you were convinced you were are Franciscan.
And, I think it bears repeating, wanting to join an order because you think their habit is ācoolā missing the entire point of religious life.
I will advise you again, find a spiritual director or talk to someone in your diocesean vocations office, or, if you are really drawn to a particular order, contact them. Learning different spiritualities is a good thing, but you need someone with knowledge and clarity of thought to help guide you through this process of discernment.
Also, I just spoke to my new Spiritual Director (Although he probably doesnāt realize he is) this morning. Father Pascal has been a good friend of ours for a very long time, and when we asked him to speak with me sometime he was very excited, since he was my age when he started to seriously discern. We had a nice breakfast, and the discussion that ensued was quite enjoyable.
So, in short, just rest assured that I am not doing this for the clothing. The clothing may be what attracted me when I was very young, but this is no longer about wearing a cape full-time. I simply asked this question since Saint Dominic always wore his cappa, and I wasnāt sure if most Dominicans discarded it or not.
