[Curious]

Hey,

Could someone give me the run-down (or a link) of available Catholic…um orders? Is that the right word? Like the Franciscan Order? And which ones (if any) are male only or women only or both. Or something.

There’s hundreds of 'em, and it’s a little bit more complicated than counting the franciscans (for example) as one order. For men you’ve got your Order of Friars Minor (OFM), your Order of Friars Minor Conventual (OFM Conv), your Order of Friars Minor Capuchin (OFM Cap), your Third Order Regular (TOR), your Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFR), and probably others.

For women, you’ve got your Poor Clares, your Poor Clares Colletine, your School Sisters of St Francis, and definitely many others. Sorry, I don’t know their initials.

For men and women there is also the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO)

For more information about religious orders, try contacting your Diocesan Vocations Office. I think I remember seeing a book at mine several years ago, titled something like Guide to Religious Vocations. I wish you well with your discernment.

then click the section, “Religious Orders” All religious orders of the Catholic Church are listed there, with founder name, etc etc plus website link, if there is one.
