I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but what is the Latin word for “ordinary”. Why we call this week “ordinary time”. It does not seem ordinary to me.

ordinary for the ordinal or “counting” numbers because we count the weeks of the year outside the liturgical seasons. we speak for instance of the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time, or the 17th Sunday of the Year. we begin counting with the week the follows the baptism of the Lord, count until Lent begins, and resume counting after Pentecost, ending with the Sunday before Advent.
