My father is celebrating 35 years as a deacon this summer, and we were wondering what kind of prayers/liturgies can be added to mass to celebrate this. We were kind of hoping for something more meaningful than just an extra prayer added to the prayers of the faithful, or some short announcement at the beginning of mass and then nothing else. Does a liturgy for something like that even exist?

Congratulations to your dad, you all must be very proud.
There are Masses for all kinds of special events, but my best guess is to ask a parish priest. He should know or have some ideas. Good luck. 👍

It’s in 2 weeks, and last we heard, the Bishop of the diocese where we will be celebrating was still “going to look into it”. That kind of stresses my sister, especially since we’re travelling, all of us (five children, plus our families, plus our parents) up to Northern Canada, to a missionary diocese, which is going to take 2 days to get there, and it would be kind of a let-down, if all the Bishop came up with was: “Let us pray for N_____ as he celebrates 35 years as a deacon…” during the prayers for the faithful, or something.

We kind of want to check into the possibilities, so that we can have some suggestions ourselves, if he hasn’t come up with anything at the last minute.

My brother was looking into a blessing from the Pope.
