Portland, OR – Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski, a Catholic, is coming under fire from the leading Catholic official in the state for hosting a dinner for a prominent pro-abortion group. Archbishop John Vlazny says the governor is wrong to support the group and is violating the pro-life teachings of the church in doing so.

If Bishop Vasa of the Diocese of Baker (the portion of Oregon that lies east of the Cascades) hasn’t done the same, he probably will.

I had no idea the Gov. of Oregon was a Catholic. When our Gov.(Washington) hosted a NARAL breakfast while identifying herself as Catholic I wrote to her. I also wrote to our Archbishop who wrote back that the Gov. had assured him her staff made the arrangements and now she was committed to host it. ??? And Bishop Vasa of central Oregon, when he makes his statement, will make it utterly clear. It seems there is a spirit of courage and charity falling on our bishops re: this issue.

Bishop Vasa prevented Kulongoski from speaking at the catholic church in Sunriver last fall - if memeory serves 🙂

Bishop Vasa has taken very couragous stands 👍 … this was a time when the Governor was traveling in the Baker Diocese …

It seems that now Vlazny has joined him …

I am sure he will also offer his comments but Kulongoski resides in the Archdiocese of Portland, not the Diocese of Baker … Vlazny is his bishop not Vasa …

I wrote to both Archbishop Vlazny and Bishop Steiner only yesterday about this issue … today I wrote to Kulongoski 😦

If you live in Oregon or Southern Washington …

Please join the Archbishop on Friday evening for Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral 5:30 PM … as an alternative to the celebration of death at the NARAL dinner … the Archbishop will be celebrating life …

Lets get enough faithful catholics together to make a statement with our presence … a statement in actions and deeds … inviting Christ into lives throught he Eucharist …
