The State of Oregon continues to defend a state program that distributes federal coronavirus relief funds to black people — and only black people — after two separate lawsuits have challenged the program as a violation of the U.S. Constitution.

The Oregon state legislature’s Emergency Board created the Oregon Cares Fund this summer — with nightly Black Lives Matter riots raging in Portland — to allocate $62 million in funds from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to black residents (out of $200 million in total funds). . . .

. . . At the time, the Oregon Legislative Counsel warned that the program might be unconstitutional, especially because the legislature had not shown evidence that past discrimination was responsible for black Oregonians’ suffering during COVID . . .
. . . Article I, section 20, of the Oregon Constitution, prohibits the state from providing privileges or immunities to a class of citizens if the privileges or immunities do not apply on the same terms to all citizens.

.

This is yet another example of the left and its discrimination based upon skin color.

This is how many of the people who have imbibed such ideology think.
Then they frequently PROJECT that fact
(discrimination based upon the color of someone’s skin) from themselves,
upon others.
Then follow it up with virtue signalling.
This serves as conscience salve for themselves regarding their own disordered race-based discrimination.

Heh, will antifa and BLM leave Portland alone now ?

Probably not

I think the Oregon Government should have been more sneaky. When discrimination in voting was outlawed, some states figured out they could continue to discriminate by being sneaky and passing regulations that disenfranchised blacks without overtly saying so - like grandfather clauses, poll tax, literacy tests, and in the case of home ownership, red lining for mortgages. What the Oregon Government should have done was set up a Covid relief fund targeted to small businesses in a certain geographic area, like the King Neighborhood, in Northeast Portland (around Hwy 99E and NE Alberta St.), or other such places that are predominantly African American. That way they could accomplish the same thing without being unconstitutional. The trouble is liberals are just too darn honest about their intentions. That will get them into trouble every time.
