He of all people rants and raves about other countries’ anti american sentiments… does he realize he helps add fuel to the fire with statements such as this?

From the September 14 broadcast of Westwood One’s The Radio Factor with Bill O’Reilly:

O’REILLY: Bush to address the U.N., says we must be steadfast in battling terrorism. I’m sure all the U.N. people fell asleep. They don’t really care about anything over there at all. I just wish Katrina had only hit the United Nations building, nothing else, just had flooded them out. And I wouldn’t have rescued them

I wish he would leave radio. It’s embarrassing to think that he belongs to the Catholic Church.

He’s Catholic! I can’t even tell he’s Christian!

He’s opposed to the death penalty, and I assume he’s opposed to abortion. That’s probably about all I agree with him on.

This statement is typical O’Reilly nonsense. Did he think about the fact there are Vatican representatives there, even if he doesn’t like the politicians?

Mike

Thanks for bringing that up Mike. I had that in mind but forgot to add it.

However, I dont think Bill cares though; as he has attacked the Pope in the past… From the 2003 Annual Report from the Catholic League, O’Reilly said he *never * like the this Pope (JPII)… you gotta scroll down some, but its there:

catholicleague.org/2003report/summary2003.html

Plus, Bill also called JPII “Senile” but denies it. I couldnt find the link, but based on what the League said, I dont find it hard to believe…but we’ll just call this one: “alleged” 😉

Ah. JP2 ’ had no vision about how people live in the real world’

Did Mr O’Reilly want him to promote contraception and abortion, or something???!!!

As to calling the Pope senile, just google ‘O’Reilly Pope senile’. There should be enough links there to satisfy most people.

What a rude, obnoxiuos thing to say. With all those lives lost in the South, how can he justify making such a crude statement.:tsktsk:

If you know Bill O’Reilly and if you saw the whole segment, you would know that he was speaking tongue-in-cheek or facetiously.

Hmm. I didn’t realize that as Catholics we are required to bow to the altar of the United Nations.

I’m sure it was all tongue-in-cheek. He likes to be dramatic in making a point. The problem with O’Reilly is his pomposity. I don’t know why I continue to ever give a listen to him, but I do until I can’t take it any longer. Perhaps Im somewhat masochistic, and I guess I keep hoping he will somehow redeem himself and admit he was wrong about some things.
He says he has no problem with pornography because he can take it or leave it. He also supported Terri Schiavo’s “husband”. He often speaks of his Irish Catholic upbringing, and that he gave the sisters problems (I’m not surprised).

Thats got nothing to do with anything.

You do realize that as Catholics though (which Bill says he is) we arent suppose to be wishing disasters upon people and then saying we wouldnt help them…heck…I know atheists who dont even talk like that.

I believe your criticism here is misplaced. O’Reilly does political commentary not religious commentary. You can’t force someone not to sin against themselves. You must teach them through love and faith that sinning against themselves is wrong. Pornography is not something we can legislate away.

You’re definitely mistaken here. He said that Michael Schiavo should transfer custody of Terri to her parents so they could keep her alive.

You’re right. But if everything I said in the middle of an emotional conversation was taken literally, then I’d be the devil.

Let’s get real here. Do you all really believe that he wants the U.N. members dead from a natural disaster? It was obviously tongue-in-cheek.

To wish disaster on anyone even if you dont like them is evil. He should apologize for that comment about the UN. I think he has some issues with the Church if he has been so critical of the Pope. The best thing to do is pray that he may find the fullness of his Catholic faith. But his comment was uncalled for and definetly he should apologize for that.

I agree with you…he shouldn’t have said it even if joking…not funny.

If that is offensive to you, then you probably never listen to much talk radio, political commentary, or Saturday Night Live. These kind of statements are meant as satirical commentary and tounge in cheek. Political hyperbole is older then the US itself, and this sort of commentary is a time honored rhetorical tool. (Remember Jesus used this same kind of speech, friends.)
O’Reilly owes no one an apology for his ON TARGET comments about the UN.

You’re exactly right! Jesus called Peter the devil, told people to call no man “father”, told people to cut off their hands and eyes, etc.

None of us would expect an apology or retraction from Jesus. We know he was using hyperbole.

Would you require of Bill O’Reilly regarding political hyperbole that which you wouldn’t expect of Jesus?

Er… forgive me Lord. 🙂

People need to remember that one half of any media outlet is for entertainment and ratings… The other is informational. And if you tune in a commentator, you get their opinion. Thank God we have a free media. You can tune in and hear whatever floats your boat anymore, and the POV’s are unrestrained. Not like in the day of Dan, Peter, and Tom. Thankfully those days are over.

I dont listen to the News media(I feel its all propoganda) There is no network(including Fox) that gives you an accurate account of what is really going on. People have bias both Right, and Left. I do vote based on the candidate that lines up with the Church’s teachings the most. When Jesus spoke to Peter he new that Satan had entered him, he was not referring to Peter directly as Satan. Ask your Priest. He’ll confirm that. Jesus talked alot in parables to try to get his point accross. The Bible is not to be taken literally, we have to search for the meanings of the scriptures(thats what the Church teaches). I’m sorry, to wish harm on anyone(good, or bad) is EVIL! He should apologize for this and all of the negative stuff he said about JP2.
